Really friendly English pub in the middle of PA farm country. Snag a Bombardier Bitter on tap and down a scotch egg for a Brit-proper afternoon snack.
OUT OF THE WAY & NO LIQUOR. After driving about 15 miles outside Coatesville on narrow roads I arrived at a crossroads pub/restaurant called The Whip at about 6pm Friday...Some local stable hands at the bar and NO WINE or LIQUOR as if it did not matter. Strictly amateur! Bring the old folks!
Great Shepards Pie and Steak.
The Whip Tavern is one of our new faves.
It is an english pub but with real seasoning and the food is not overcooked. The shepards pie, beef and mushroom pie, steak au poivre, and fish and chips have all been ordered and have been excellent (hint: order the fish and chips on separate plates so they do not get soggy).
There is a great selection of beers both on tap and by the bottle. There are no wines but they will open yours for a mere $2.50.
The bread pudding is tasty but a bit dry. The cake in a carmelized sauce is to die for. Don’t think of ordering anything else!
The Welsh Rarebit appetizer is the best I have had but it will fill you up if you are planning both an entree and dessert. Hint: they don’t give you enough bread with it and will charge you $1.00 extra to get more!
We will definitely go back although my wife is grousing about the $1.00 for extra bread…
Great beer and atmosphere. Great atmosphere and food; perfect for anglophiles and ex-pats; great beers; byo dining with corkage fee
