very good sushi!. I'm addicted to their spicy scallop sushi. It is one of the few places around that I trust for good sushi.

Climbing to the top. i beg to differ. From when the new owners first opened the restaurant, they have improved dramatically. I've talked to and seen the sushi man at work. I've also had the pleasure of seeing him pick out the fish when the delivery guy came in; he takes his time and makes sure that he picks the freshest fish available, sending the bad ones back asking for new ones. I've been a regular at this restaurant for quite some time now and yes, when the new owners opened, they needed some time to adapt. However, with their new styles, added options on the menu (which are fantastic by the way), and added desserts, this restaurant may be catching up to the previous owner, if not surpassing him. Quote from the sushi man: "WE NEVA USE BAD FEESH!"

it's a dud !!. all the great rating about this small place has dissapeared with previous owners, i was a regular at this place from opening of "UZU" few years back., and I realized that week ago was my last visit to UZU. Freshness of sashimi and portions became small and when ever we ask for o-toro, we been given one with brownish tint and oder of dead fish. What has happened to uzu. If new owner don't shape up and care about customer they have they will be left with a "dud" of a sushi joint.

Small but powerful. Prompt seating, good sushi. I can think of a few sushi places that I would rank a bit higher but Uzu is everything you look for in a restaurant. Good food, very fresh. Good service and great location.

Cozy sushi BYOB serves elegant sushi, sashimi and Japanese entrees on an out-of-the-way Old City block.. In Short
Uzu's asymmetrical shape allows for table placement that's conducive to tete-a-tetes but the six-tabled dining room is so small, the couple seated five inches away will overhear everything. The white table-cloth BYOB attracts quiet local couples, as most tourists don't walk this far down Market Street. A table outside is more private but not great for people watching. Menus are full of simple and complex seafood and vegetarian rolls, fresh sashimi, and Japanese entrees.

Just below upscale atmosphere with good service and BYOB option. The atmosphere at Uzu is great a bit smaller than some sushi bars I've been to but also less personable than others in the sense of being righ tup on the bar, and the staff is very polite and considerate. This was my first time at this Sushi bar. Which was tonight when I went out on a date, I order the Uzu Regular my date the Philly Roll. The Miso Soup (comes with the UR)was with out question the best I have ever had, and I am not much of a soup person.

The Sushi on the other hand was passable. Being that I read the reviews and that I worked in the back end of the service industry from high school, and through college, I would chalk it up to something being over looked. What made the sushi passable was that it was warm, though this could have been from the plate just being washed cause that was warm too. Like I said overlooked. But my date had no issues with her meal so , I would go here again to make sure that what happened was just that I had an unfortunate experience.

Best sushi in the region. wife and i are foodies..go out to dinner at least 2-3 times/week..had been to morimoto (too pricey -- but great drinks, especially in the lounge), pod (great if your kids want to keep changing the lights in the pod), haru (why is that place still open?), etc.

we were walking by uzu and decided to stop in. And have been hooked ever since - we now go there (or takeout) at least once a week. The chef/owner, Bo, is phenomenal - i have had the most awesome, most diverse varieties of sushi here.

Cost - this place is cheap especially when you consider the quality of food you get. I would say the food here is better than the food at Morimoto - and you pay about half at Uzu as you would at Morimoto. Of course - Morimoto is a much better hang-out and check out the crowd place - but if you want to focus on sushi, go to Uzu. Typically, we pay around $70-80 for 6-7 different things...at morimoto, we were used to shelling out $120!! so the prices at this place are similar to middle-tier sushi places..but the food is high-end.

Place is small -- so good for a groups from 2-6. Not at all good for little kids - since the place is really small. If you want to go in a larger group - then try weeknights after 8:30 (or plan ahead for reservations).

We have now introduced about 20 of our friends/work colleagues to this place - and literally, each one of them has been back at least once!

My recommendation: order a couple things, and then have mimi (the hostess/waitress) ask the chef to make something special for you! And yes - go on a night when you are NOT stressed for time. Since it is a small place, it sometimes takes a little longer for the food to arrive if it is a busy night.
