Editorial Review for North Bowl – by Michael Alarcon
In Short
The one-time automotive garage is now a 21,000-square-foot nightlife haven. From the retro furnishings and lighting fixtures of the '50s to the swanky bar and glass enclosed pod that overlooks the lanes from the lounge. Not in the mood to bowl? Pop in for a bite to eat--the kitchen's menu has a surprisingly sophisticated menu for a bowling alley and the cocktail lounge is brimming with cool.

I've lived in northern liberties for a few years now and love the neighborhood bars. When I first learned that a bowling alley was going to setup shop on 2nd St, my friends and I thought it was going to be another cheezy "Lucky Strike", which is nothing more than a TGI Fridays with a few bowling lanes crammed in. We gave North Bowl a shot when it first opened and was very impressed with the decor, drinks, music, and overall vibe. We actually started to become regulars and rarely going for the bowling. The tator tots are good, as well as the mac-n-cheese. So when a close friend wanted to find a place to have a birthday party we all thought that North Bowl would be a great idea. Unfortunately, that was a BAD idea. We decided to reserve the 4 lanes on the top floor, with open bar from 10:30 - 12:30 (beer and wine only). The cost was WAY overpriced, but we thought we'd make the best out of it, since unlimited bowling was included. When we got there, one of the lanes was out of service so we only had 3 lanes. So the management decided to give us the whole night on the bowling lanes, seeing how we paid enough to be there anyways. When it got close for the open bar to shut down, a few of the party goers asked the bar tender to load up on a few rounds (it's worth trying). So we were able to get about 3 extra rounds in before we were cut off. This didn't go over well with the management. After the manager (little short guy) chewed out the bartender, he shut off our lanes and told us to call it a night. I can totally understand if we abused our open bar previledges, but we're talking about making a fus over a few beers that were already paid for. NOT A GOOD MOVE. I'll no longer do business with North Bowl, nor will I recommend that anyone throw events there. You're just wasting your money and the management doesn't appreciate your patronage. Simply put, just find another bar. There's no need to pay a fortune to bowl.
Pros: good food, good drinks, nice atmosphere
Cons: poor management, over-priced open bar/bowling

North bowl takes the retro lounge style of bowling alley like lucky strike and pairs it with a more affordable time for food and drink as well as better quality. They only have about 20 lanes so make a reservation for you lane also try the philly fondue
Cons: can be hard to get a lane with out a reservation
