Famous for the "Pumpple," apple and pumpkin pies inside vanilla and chocolate cakes, ALL encased in vanilla buttercream. DUDE. Seriously. (Photo: Albert Yee)

Everyone raves about the whoopie pies, but I like the oversized macaroons best, followed by the flourless chocolate cake. They also have vegan cookies!

Some of the most inventive pastries in town: Pumpple, Arnold Palmer, Whoopwich, S'mOreo to name a few. Their truffles (pictured) are grand.

Tips for Flying Monkey Bakery

I've heard such great things about. I've heard such great things about this place and couldn't wait to try the cakes. Goes to show you not to believe the hype. I wasn't at all impressed. Someone brought cupcakes in to work from Flying Monkey. They were chocolate with buttercream frosting. Both were not good. The frosting tasted like cool whip with lard added and the cake tasted like cheap box cake mix. I've had much better at small unknown bakeries in my neighborhood.

YUM.. How is it that I'm the first to review the Monkey? I don't know what to rave about first - the cupcakes or the brownies or the homemade marshmallows rolled in graham cracker crumbs. The Flying Monkey's frosting is deliciously light (I am told it is "French buttercream") and I'm a die-hard fan of the vanilla-vanilla cupcake. Mmmm. This is making me hungry.

A relative newcomer in this market opened in 1892 brings a sweet and modern twist to classic baked goods.. In Short
Former New Yorker and wholesaler of delectable desserts Rebecca Michaels realized her dream of a retail outlet for her heady creations in a prominent location in the Reading Terminal Market. Sophisticated selections such as Green Tea Pound Cake and Almond Pear Tarts sit side-by-side classic cups updated with aesthetic twists as well as other goodies. Take home a selection from the acclaimed pastry chef or a call to sample sweet goodness for your next affair.
