Editorial Review for Cantina Los Caballitos – by Michael Alarcon

In Short
The folks from the Italian Market's popular Royal Tavern move farther into burgeoning South Philadelphia, this time with a Mexican concept. Killer margaritas, a convivial vibe, outdoor seating and a popular late-night happy hour make Cantina a strong stand out in a nabe dominated by old-school 'red gravy" Italian eateries and traditional corner bars. A kitchen serving until 1 am adds to the appeal.

so..... you want mexican, good food, great service, affordable prices, somewhere you want to come back to again and again....... Cantina Los Caballitos is not your place. The hostess threw down our menus, our waitress took forever and a siesta for our drinks. plus she forgot what we ordered. Trek all across town to go here .... never. The food was a major letdown. Black-beans in a blender do not make a sauce. Go here - even if it were on my corner... never. I had such high expectations. I am dissapointed. If you want GOOD mexican food, head to Lolita. But not on the night I am going- I want a table.

Pros: good spot in the middle of nowhere

Cons: everything food and beverage related

My girlfriend and I had brunch at the Cantina a couple of weeks ago and we couldn't have been happier. The food was great, the coffee was good, and the service was really nice. We were seated right away. They played music that I like. I mean, what's not to like? You'd have to be a total fun-hater not to like this place.

Pros: Yummy Food Nice Music

Cons: I don't live closer to it
