If you're feeling a little rough around the edges from the pervious evening's good times, a couple of margaritas and a plate of nachos from Cantina will set you right.

Cantina is a wonderful spot for magaritas and nachos with friends. It also has one of the best juke box selections in Philly!
Cantina Los Caballitos is commonly understood as THE place to go for margaritas on Saturday nights, but the place really shines during the week, when the crowds stay home. Since starting outside seating a couple years back, they have made the corner of Passyunk and Morris their own, adding flower boxes and colored lights. Grab a happy hour drink or some brunch, and remember you can never go wrong with chicken tacos.
Went for nachos and sangria over the weekend and sat outside. Had a great time. I will say the servers try to turn over tables way too quickly though, that's never good.
Good Food, but Terrible Service.
I had drinks and dined with friends on Sunday evening and have to give this place a mixed review. The wait staff is terrible and they have no communication amongst each other. They are all a bunch of incompetent high school students who have the brains of a 1st grader.
It took the waiter 20 minutes to take our drink order after we were seated and another 15 minutes to bring the drinks. I asked the waiter for silverware and napkins for our table and he bring me the items to set the table myself. How rude! The margaritas barely had any alcohol in it, but the food was good.
Overall, I would recommend the other Mexican resturant right down the street on Passyunk Ave.
Good food - Worst service ever. I would have loved to stay longer and had a few more drinks but the waitress couldn't get us out of there fast enough.. we went at 8:30 and by 9:15 she was clearing off our food while we were still eating it! my daughter ordered cookies and cream cake that the "waitress" raved about.. I thought we were going to go in to a sugar coma... when I complained about the cake, instead of her taking it back and taking it off the bill, she arrogantly voiced that it was her favorite cake and that was the last piece and she really wanted it.. needless to say.. that's the first and last time I'LL EVER GO THERE!
Ok..... Went there on a Saurday night and the place was packed? The drinks weren't bad, and the food wasn't the BEST but our company made up for it. I don't think I would go back due to the fact that it didn't leave a last impression.
mexican food.
so..... you want mexican, good food, great service, affordable prices, somewhere you want to come back to again and again....... Cantina Los Caballitos is not your place. The hostess threw down our menus, our waitress took forever and a siesta for our drinks. plus she forgot what we ordered. Trek all across town to go here .... never. The food was a major letdown. Black-beans in a blender do not make a sauce. Go here - even if it were on my corner... never. I had such high expectations. I am dissapointed.
If you want GOOD mexican food, head to Lolita. But not on the night I am going- I want a table.
Awesome Breakfast Burrito. My girlfriend and I had brunch at the Cantina a couple of weeks ago and we couldn't have been happier. The food was great, the coffee was good, and the service was really nice. We were seated right away. They played music that I like. I mean, what's not to like? You'd have to be a total fun-hater not to like this place.
Excellent brunch. Tasty drinks. Good atmosphere..
After a fairly rough night of celebration, several friends and I were looking for some brunch to soothe our hangovers and get us moving on a sunny Sunday afternoon. A friend recommended we meet her at the Cantina. We had an unwieldy party of seven, but we were seated promptly.
The salsa was very fresh and tomato-y. The tomatillo salsa was a nice change of pace. Everyone seemed to love their food. My burrito was spectacular as was my Bloody Maria. All the dishes were reasonably priced as well.
As I had such a nice time, I just wanted to speculate a bit. The three reviews prior to my own are all one star and were all written on the same day. Does that seem terribly likely? It seems like someone had a bad time here or has it in for the restaurant or one of its employees. The writing style is all fairly similar as well. Trying to bring the rating down, perhaps? I think you and your fiancee/boyfriend/fiancee need to lighten up.
Nice Bar, Bad food. I have passed by Los Caballitos several times, and it looked like a great Mexican restuarant. My boyfriend and I walked through the door, and we were very happy with the atmosphere and the people working there were friendly. We sat down and were served cold tortilla chips that propbably came from a bag. We were served a red salsa and a green salsa that tasted the same. It was like nothing I had ever tasted in a Mexican restuarant. There wasn't much to choose from the menu. My favorite spanish meal is enchiladas, and they were not on the menu. My second choice would have been Chimichangas, and they were not on the menu either. If they want to keep customers coming back they are going to have to add more things to the menu. They are trying to put a twist to authentic mexican dishes, but it is not working. Another disappointment was that rice and beans did not come with your meal. Everything was ala-carte. I ordered spanish rice and it wasn't good at all, I only took one bite. It was really that bad. I hope they improve their menu because I do like the atmosphere, but the food was horrible.
Not what I expected. I went to Los Caballitos for the first time on Thursday, October 11th. I was very disappointed with the food and somewhat disappointed with the service. My fiance, myself and her daughter were seated and it was chilly enough in the restaurant that we couldn't even remove our jackets. We were given lunch menus which were only good until 5pm and we arrived at 5:45 pm. We were given a small plate of tortilla chips which were cold and not nearly enough for three people. When we were finally given the regular dinner menus we were all very disappointed in the limited selection. We all settled for something that we would not have even considered at any other mexican restaurants we had been to in the past. The dinners were all a la carte and we were used to rice and beans or other sides being included with the meal. The prices were more than we have paid at any other mexican restaurants we have been to, and I'm not talking about fast food mexican. I ordered the crispy tilapia tacos, and they were not good at all. I had refried beans as a side dish and I was disappointed in them also. We are not big alcohol drinkers so I can't speak about the margaritas. Overall I was very disappointed with the meal and the service was average at best. Needless to say I would not reccommend this restaurant to anyone, in fact I would reccommend to anyone that they not even waste there time in this establishment.
