I went to Cebu this past Friday with my girlfriend for dinner around 9:00 PM. The hostess was not at her post when we came in and when she arrived she wasn?t even apologetic or very friendly. We were seated promptly, and I was surprised how dead it was in there?there were not many diners.
The decor looked nothing like you would expect a restaurant named after a tropical island to look like. It seems that they left it the same as it was when Word Fusion was there.
Anyway, on to the food. We had the following from the Tapas menu: Pork Adobo, Beef Tapa, and Lumpia Shanghai. We had the Paella entree. Here?s my assessment of each dish:
? Pork Adobo: This was very good?the best dish that we got.
? Beef Tapa: This was very good as well.
? Lumpia Shanghai: This was terrible. It tasted worse than an egg roll from a Chinese take out.
? Paella: This was probably the worse seafood dish I?ve ever had anywhere. There was no flavor at all. Everything was bland. Honestly, I could have made a better dish. And the worse part about this was that ?Garlicky Longaniza Sausage? looked and tasted like kielbasa. Actually, I?m pretty sure it was kielbasa. How exotic was that?
For dessert we had some fried banana spring roll thing. This wasn?t very good either.
In conclusion, if you want some good Asian food, go to several of the Viet or Thai restaurants in the city where you can find better parking and better food. I would not return nor recommend Cebu to anyone.
Fresh decor and fine food, reasonable prices and good service. Don't miss it.. My girlfriend and I ate at Cebu the evening of April 12. We loved it. We had grilled Salmon, 3 tapas, a Cebu salad, a glass of wine and a Mojito-like cocktail. A full, delicious, somewhat exotic meal for $60. The service was fine; a fascinating Cambodian server was knowledgeable and friendly and professional. The decor was lively-punk-romantic-high tech; a former bank with high ceilings and some tropical-like touches. We ate early, so the restaurant wasn't crowded. The tables were not too close together. We would go back in a second. Hopefully our next experience will be as good as the first.
Not a Cebuano Food, Review is not consistant! Mmmmm.. Makes you think?. I stayed in the area of Cebu for about a week and had such a bad dinner there that I felt compelled to find a Menupages to comment. It strikes me that the positive reviews here might definitely have a stake in the restaurant; they're too glowing and they don't in any way capture the actual experience of eating at Cebu. Different chefs, servers, and food distributors can make a dramatic difference but I ate here in early January - the period described - and I can honestly say it was the most disappointing restaurant meal I have ever had, ever. And the service was just astounding, also among the worst. Yes, the atmosphere is excellent - that's why I chose the restaurant but you know the cliches about beauty, skin deep, looks, etc.
Avoid completely!!!!!. Do not go here! I have never had such a bad experience as I did at this bar. Bartenders are completely unprofessional, and when I complained to management they did nothing about it. I have worked as a waitress for years and never have I seen an employee say harsh things to a costumer. The bartender should have been fired on the spot!
Superb, authentic, trendy fine dining!!!!. Sixteen of us had a superb relaxed fine dining experience at Cebu. Ambience was elegant, service was efficient and very friendly. Food was delicious, bountiful portions, authentic!!! The mixed drink I had was unique and exhilirating. Prices were better than other fine dining restaurants in the area. We felt that we were treated very special. I definitely will be back with my friends and family. Filipinos will be proud to have such an upscale restaurant. This restaurant is highly recommended.
Crab-stuffed Lobster and champagne in plastic cups???.
I went here with my girlfriend for their Valentine's Day prix fixe dinner and will probably not be returning.
To be fair, the food was quite good and the price wasn't bad. For $45 each, I had foie grois and duck as an appetizer, frisee and duck salad, an oyster, a whole lobster stuffed with crab and lobster, and a dessert sampler. My girlfriend had the same but with a kobe beef carpaccio as an appetizer.
However, the service was subpar. It started off well with the hostess, coat check, and bartender all polite and helpful, but it was downhill once we sat down. It took a long time to get our drinks and then quite some time for the appetizers. Throughout the meal we kept using our silverware and having it taken from us without it being replaced. We had to ask after almost every course. The main course came out as soon as the oysters were put down which was rushed. The server was not present when any of our food was brought out and no one was able to explain to us what the sauces with the oyster or the desserts were. We even told the manager about the service and he didn't know what the desserts were. Although he did find out and come back. The desserts were not as good as the rest of the food, a flan, a banana creme brulee, and mango sorbet with shaved peach chutney. They tasted like they had been made 6 hours earlier. The biggest suprise though was the glass of champagne included in the meal came out in a PLASTIC cup. I just don't get it.
To top it off, when we got the check, it had an 18% gratuity already tacked on. When the credit card was run, there was no way to reduce the tip. We were not happy diners, but we were in a hurry to get home to watch Lost.
Cebu used to be World Fusion. The check still says World Fusion on it. Overall, the experience came off as a great idea executed very poorly. They just need to pay attention to detail There was plenty of waitstaff, but none of them knew what was going on. Good food, unless you're in a hurry.
Finally a spot for the middle aged+ crowd in Old City.
We went to Cebu for the $30 dinner tonight with a few friends. I'm extremely satisfied with their Restaurant Week offer ( yes, they are doing it, although we did not know about it either) My husband had the Kare Kare (oxtail) and I had a the Cebu Salad and trifecta appetizer option (you get 3 appetizers for a bargain): Inihaw (pork bits with sweet onions and lemon), Lumpia (great thin rolls with 3 wonderful dipping sauces), and the the Tokwa (my favorite: tofu, chorizo and other morsels).
Overall we all had a great dining experience. There is no denying the chef's talent. However service could improve, but I am relatively forgiving of not-up-to-par service as we are all human and we can always improve. I am also very demanding and picky by nature, so this should be taken with a grain of salt (also a reason why I have become forgiving with age).
I should ad that the the Latin dance music was lovely and played softly, which was perhaps our greatest surprise this being old city.
In all, you cannot beat the Restaurant Week deal. Plus, this is a place for a mature audience which can appreciate the atmosphere, the quality of the food, and can spare the pocket change.
A++ from me and my picky picky posh friends. We will be back even after Feb. 4th when this deal ends.
Eat appetizers - not the flan. I went with a large group of friends and the service was generally good, if a little slow. We did have some issues with the hostess, who was incredibly rude when it came time to return our checked coats. The trifecta appetizer sampler is an excellent way to try several of their delicious dishes. I particularly enjoyed the ribs, which were tasty and incredibly tender. The entrees were all solid; I had the kare kare (oxtail) and enjoyed it. For dessert, the fried bananas were the way to go. The flan was strangely dry, stiff and tasted off. Overall, though, it was a nice evening and a great place to go with a bunch of people.
Great waitstaff. Eat flan.. We had dinner at Cebu last night. We were a group of 11. We started off with the Tokwa Baboy, Ensalada Tropical and Ceviche, all fantastic. For our main course we loved the Kiwali Lechon, Crispy Whole Fish, Cebu Noodle Bowl and the Pancit Bihon. The paella was just ok. The Flan for dessert was just like mom makes it. Yum. Besides the food, the music was played at just the right volume and the waitstaff was excellent and SO friendly! I expect the waitstaff at places like these to be snotty and cold, but Cebu's bartender and waitstaff were the complete opposite. That made a big difference in the dining experience.
