Another delight in Chester county. We went to Catherines' after many years and loved the atmosphere of the newish place. Outdoor dining for the summer. lovely interior. Food was great, service was attentive and the desserts were amazing ( try the chocolate bomb.) A byo and they will care for your wine well/
Great atmosphere and ambiance! food was good..
We visited Catherines on a friday night. We called before going because we weren't sure if we needed a reservation. The only seating time left was 9pm so we took it. So, reservations are highly recommended. The restaurant is located in the little area of Embreeville, PA, in a fabulous historical looking brick building. You park in the back and follow a little walkway to the side entrance. Its very cute!! Do not try to enter thru the front door as it is never used and you won't gain entry that way. Upon entering, you'll see the eclectic style decoration throughout, as well as wood floors and a high ceilng. Great atmosphere! Word of warning though, the restaurant is dark! It appears to be mostly lit by candlelight - we were even given a flashlight to read our menu!!
We started with a goat cheese appetizer which was delicious. My husband ordered the filet mignon and I had seafood - both were cooked just as we asked, medium rare. We were really wanting to try their creme brule dessert but when it came time to place the dessert order, we were informed they were out. So, we didn't try a dessert. The menu is small but some great choices for me. My husband, who is more of a steak or chicken guy, felt a bit more limited by the menu. We didn't bring our own wine but it is a BYOB. Your bill can add up quickly though because everything is seperate. If you're really wanting a salad with your meal, you have to order it seperate at the full price, same thing goes for soup.
My only complaint was about the waitstaff. Though our service was decent, the waitstaff and even the owner/manager greeted us rather coldly when we arrived and this continued throughout our dinner. its possible they didn't give us as vital attention because we were only a two top table but I was displeased with the unfriendly service and greeting of those working there that night.
Overall, great choice. Its is a bit expensive but a great choice for a special occcasion or a night out. We would return.
