Finally, someone got it Right.. I had my B-day dinner/party at Alfa this past Friday night. The food was unbelievable. After we ate we moved the party into the lounge and had a blast. The music was really good We tried several of the bartenders special shots also amazing. I have looked for an unpretentious, friendly place for some time now and have finally found it. I cannot thank Alfa enough for making my birthday a truly special evening.

GREAT HOT SPOT!!!!!!. I went to Alfa Bar over the weekend with friends from college that I haven't seen in years and had the best time ever. The atmosphere was hot (hottest girls ever) with a great lounge feel. We had drinks and some appetizers and ate dinner. Nothing is really better than a room full of beautiful women but the food at Alfa was totally awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bartenders were really friendly and attentive which is sometimes hard to find in such a busy place. Overall we had a great time. I would definitely go back to Alfa Bar again for the great music and atmosphere. Worth a night out on the town!!!

Best Affordable Restaurant and Bar. One Word WOW!!!! The name Alfa makes you think of some upscale, stuffy, uptight bar that only the elite of Rittenhouse could afford, thats far from the truth. The servers are hip, young and edgy, the bartenders are some of the best I have ever seen. The drinks and amazing and strong. The food, is fantastic, recently my friends I had the pleasure of dinning at Alfa we started our night by having a traditional Swiss Fondue it left us speechless, I told my girls that I haven't a real fondue since moving here from Madrid and this was it. The fried goat cheese is also to die for! As for our dinner, again we were surprised!!!, Stuffed Chicken Breast, Hazelnut Crusted Salmon, petite Bacon Wrapped Steaks, it felt like were at a 5 star restaurant, with none of the white table cloth pressures of being formal, we had FUN! As for dessert we couldn't have ask for anything better rum-spiked pumpkin cheese cake and chocolate cake were absolutely perfect. We asked our sever about the chef, surprisingly we learned that Alfa's knew young chef is from Boston, and he was pointed out to us across the restaurant, he was introducing himself and shaking hands with other tables (cute). To the owners and management of Alfa one word! Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want to go to a place for friends and fun with great affordable food and drinks Alfa Restaurant and Bar.

This sounds like HEAVEN. I've never even been to this place. But I can tell you, there is no better sales pitch for a straight buy than the snotty rant from the reviewer below who said:

"You can't move around all of the young, overdressed, stumbling girls who don't even look old enough to drink."

Is there anything better than drunk, underage girls? I didn't even know about this place. Thanks to the owners of this bar for bringing heaven to earth for me. Bless you.

Dude, sorry the drunk chicks jammed up your night with your boyfriend. But thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I WILL be there tonight (9/21/07). See you there ladies!

Just okay. I went to Alfa for a summertime happy hour with some friends from work. The decor is supposed to be "stylish" and it looks like it came from a West Elm catalog. That, to me, is kind of boring, easy, and not at all unique or interesting. When we showed up at 5pm on a Wednesday, it was empty, but by 5:45, it was overly packed. Our waiter never had time to say a word to us or adequately hear our order. (not his fault, it was packed). The bar area spread to overwhelm the tables where we were sitting, which was annoying and other customers asked if they could order thru our waiter because the bar was so slow. Finally, the drink specials included a caipirinha (national drink of brazil) and a mango margharita. Not sure what to try, we asked the waiter for a recommendation (around 5 when it was still empty) and he chose the caipirinha. It was not good, and did not taste like other caipirinhas I have had. There were two great highlights to the night thought - the proximity to rittenhouse park is perfect - a half block away and on the stretch of Walnut with all of the stores. And, the tater tots, which were on the appetizer menu were a super and tasty blast from the past.

Fun, lai d back alternative to rittenhouse elitism. This is the first review I've written here- I felt compelled to after reading the incredibly snobby bashing of Alfa by another member. A friend and I "stumbled" (not in the drunken way, thanks) upon Alfa last Saturday night. We were looking for a light meal, good drinks, and reasonable prices in a casual chic setting. Alfa was almost perfect. It did not suffer from the tacky pretension so frequent in the area, nor did it play the "look how expensive we can make OUR menu!" game. The cocktail I chose is called a Persian, which has the flavour of spiced apple. It was absolutely delicious, generously sized, and reasonably priced at $8. We ordered the Mediterranean plate and calamari to share. The Med plate was exactly as expected, and very good. The calamari was served with a tasty salsa, but was unfortunately slightly overcooked, and therefore rubbery. This was the only disappointment of the night, as service was great as well. Since we didn't try much the menu had to offer, I'm certainly willing to give it another chance. So if you don't have the fortitude to go to Rouge EVERY night, Alfa is a great alternative.

GREAT NEW DINING SPOT IN RITTENHOUSE, without the Rittenhouse pretenses.. I tried Alfa a few times and I have to say each time was better than the before. The menu changed dramatically while the favorites we had come to enjoy (Baja Tacos, Chicken Beta) remained. The space is hip and cool with a great vibe and good music. What else would you expect from the owners of the Walnut Room. Which makes this the perfect place to dine early on some great dishes like spicy black mussels, mini beef sliders (awesome!) and a lobster club sandwhich that I can't stop thinking about. Then head upstairs to the Walnut Room to dance off all the extra calories from the decadent crab mac and cheese tots. I've also popped in for happy hour which has unbelievable drink specials and it's never to crowded you have to wait for a seat.

Terrible service. Don't waste your time. Terrible service. The male bartender that worked the Friday night I was there was too busy talking to serve.

Hot Location, Terrible Restaurant. You'd think a restaurant with such a great location (Rittenhouse Square) would really step it up to cater to the upper class crowd in this area. However, Alfa greatly disappoints. Service was slow and sloppy. Our server last week was far too unprofessional to be working in a said 'fine dining' restaurant. The food? An absolute joke. Why is there so much hype about the tempura battered Ichiro Hot Dogs? The pork loin entree was overcooked and took about 45 minutes to come out. Not only was the salad dry and tasteless, my date found a fly crushed in one of the croutons. Really smooth considering I suggested to try the place.

Besides the horrendous food, the crowd at this joint is absolutely atrocious. Gawdily dressed little girls and greasy guys line the bar. The management is obviously trying to cut corners by keeping the air conditioning off as this place was hot as an oven! I about had it after four or five drunk frat guys bumped into me in our booth near the bar.

Overall I would HIGHLY recommend never even trying Alfa. The waitresses don't pay enough attention to the few tables they have and as stated the food stinks. I'm not the type to bash a restaurant like this but the experience for such a hyped up place was truly horrible. Thinking about going upstairs to the Walnut Room? Forget about it. You can't move around all of the young, overdressed, stumbling girls who don't even look old enough to drink.
