heard such good things...

Went here for dinner tonight with two friends of mine because we couldn't think of anything to do for dinner and had heard great things about the north star bar. Got a lot of funny looks as we walked in and our waitress treated us like we weren't cool or hipster enough to be eating there. Wouldn't recommend anything on the menu that wasn't vegetarian because she doesn't eat meat, even when we asked which were the popular choices. She also wouldn't serve my friend a beer with us because she didn't have her wallet on her (we're all over 30). Their beer selection isn't great considering its reputation, and their food was VERY disappointing. I paid $8 for a pulled pork sandwich that had no flavor, sauce, or anything other than pork on a cheap sesame seed bun, and the sandwiches don't even come with fries (it came with a small stick of cheese on the side). My friend had the brie, lettuce, and tomato and was equally unimpressed. It's possible we caught our waitress on an off night and she just wasn't in the mood, but the combination of the service, bad bar food, and boring beer selection have discouraged me from trying it again.
- Pros: easy going crowd
- Cons: food, waitstaff
I adore you North Star!

I love this venue! I go to the North Star all the time, it's truly a staple in my favorite rock n roll memories. I've been there for Mudhoney, to DickDale, to Say Anything, Street Dogs and White Stripes. They have honestly grabbed a hold of the rock n roll scene over the past 8 years or so and I hope they don't let go! I'm not going to lie, I like the bar food too. I am a nut for the veggie burger and their homemade fries are amazing! I read a review below about some band member complaining that the staff wasn't nice...and I have to disagree whole heartedly. I am always treated with respect by the doormen, and the bartenders are always working their butts off behind the bar. I never have to wait more than a min for a drink....unless of course it's a guinness .....mmmmm. Did I mention the beer menu ROCKS!?
- Pros: hot bartenders, friendly door guys, veggie burgers!
- Cons: it could be warmer, some nights i keep my jacket on in the front bar

WE HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT, BUT WHEN WE TRIED TO EXPLAIN IT ON THIS WEBSITE, IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ANY NEGATIVE WORDS. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL WORK. BASICALLY THE MANAGERIAL STAFF WAS DISRESPECTFUL TO BAND MEMBERS WHO WERE SCHEDULED TO PLAY THAT NIGHT. A BAND MEMBER WAS NOT ALLOWED TO RE-ENTER THE BAR BECAUSE HE WAS SMOKING TOO CLOSE TO THE FRONT DOOR. MANY PEOPLE LOST MONEY ON COVER CHARGE AND DRINKS. NEITHER OF WHICH WERE REFUNDED WHEN THE BAND WAS NOT ALLOWED TO RE-ENTER THE BAR. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT!
