heard such good things.... Went here for dinner tonight with two friends of mine because we couldn't think of anything to do for dinner and had heard great things about the north star bar. Got a lot of funny looks as we walked in and our waitress treated us like we weren't cool or hipster enough to be eating there. Wouldn't recommend anything on the menu that wasn't vegetarian because she doesn't eat meat, even when we asked which were the popular choices. She also wouldn't serve my friend a beer with us because she didn't have her wallet on her (we're all over 30). Their beer selection isn't great considering its reputation, and their food was VERY disappointing. I paid $8 for a pulled pork sandwich that had no flavor, sauce, or anything other than pork on a cheap sesame seed bun, and the sandwiches don't even come with fries (it came with a small stick of cheese on the side). My friend had the brie, lettuce, and tomato and was equally unimpressed. It's possible we caught our waitress on an off night and she just wasn't in the mood, but the combination of the service, bad bar food, and boring beer selection have discouraged me from trying it again.

I adore you North Star!. I love this venue! I go to the North Star all the time, it's truly a staple in my favorite rock n roll memories. I've been there for Mudhoney, to DickDale, to Say Anything, Street Dogs and White Stripes. They have honestly grabbed a hold of the rock n roll scene over the past 8 years or so and I hope they don't let go! I'm not going to lie, I like the bar food too. I am a nut for the veggie burger and their homemade fries are amazing! I read a review below about some band member complaining that the staff wasn't nice...and I have to disagree whole heartedly. I am always treated with respect by the doormen, and the bartenders are always working their butts off behind the bar. I never have to wait more than a min for a drink....unless of course it's a guinness .....mmmmm. Did I mention the beer menu ROCKS!?

AVOID. WE HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT, BUT WHEN WE TRIED TO EXPLAIN IT ON THIS WEBSITE, IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ANY NEGATIVE WORDS. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL WORK. BASICALLY THE MANAGERIAL STAFF WAS DISRESPECTFUL TO BAND MEMBERS WHO WERE SCHEDULED TO PLAY THAT NIGHT. A BAND MEMBER WAS NOT ALLOWED TO RE-ENTER THE BAR BECAUSE HE WAS SMOKING TOO CLOSE TO THE FRONT DOOR. MANY PEOPLE LOST MONEY ON COVER CHARGE AND DRINKS. NEITHER OF WHICH WERE REFUNDED WHEN THE BAND WAS NOT ALLOWED TO RE-ENTER THE BAR. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT!

Employees = douchebags. I just wanted to say that my band recently opened at the Northstar and we were all extremely excited about playing here. UNFORTUNATLEY, from the moment we came in, EVERY single person that worked there was a complete DOUCHEBAG to us for absolutley no reason. The bouncer was a fat piece of sh*t who wouldnt leave us alone and all we wanted to do was play some music and have a couple brews. Unless im gettin paid alot of money i dont plan to come to this place again

..ooooooh I love this baaar!. Sing it with me!

no.

seriously.

go.

Great music. I've never had the food so, to remark, would be inaccurate. The people are friendly regardless of creed or nation. All around great place to go. Enjoy.

Ernie's Bar. The bar has a rotating selection of imports and microbrews as well as a decent liquor selection. The musical acts are varied and many times the bar music is good as it is supplied by the bartenders. The atmosphere is not trendy but certainly more chic than the khyber. All in all, the bar does a great job of trying to be all things at once. That is, corner bar, music venue, and trendy hangout.

A very bright star. the NSB is the best music venue in the city right now. It offers a very intimate setting, great sound system, and affordable beer.

the north star rocks!. i love this place. great staff. the food seems like it should be cheaper, but it is really good food for the money... it is NOT your typical barr food. the salmon sandwich rocks and would cost about $20.00 in a "fancy" restaurant. the sound is premium. i give this place top markings all around.

hit or miss. Most nights, attending the north star is a pleasurable experience: friendly staff, good beer, and tasty (yet somewhat overpriced) food. An all ages show I recently attended however, was not so pleasurable. The bar in the band room served only soda for the benifit of the estimated 10 actual underage patrons, forcing the rest of us to sqeeze into the overcrowded front bar - which was crowded to the point that you felt like an alcholic for trying so hard to get a beer.
