Very funny.. customer service.... eh. I recently held a 50-person event at Helium Comedy club. The comedians were great, and the ambience was perfect for my event, but the manager and staff were a little off-putting. I showed up to my event 5 minutes before it started so I could pay for the event, and they would not let me in the door until 6:00 on the dot. Then the manager came up to me while I was mingling with guests and had me write the check for him at the bar. Just before the show started, I was informed by one of my guests that the wait staff was trying to require my guests to purchase two items in the showroom, after many of them had been buying drinks at the cash bar before the show. When I asked the manager to correct his wait staff, he basically told me to handle it. You would think that someone who just spent over $2,000 at your establishment in one night would deserve to be treated with top notch customer service, but that was not the case there.

Don't get me wrong, Helium is a great place to go with friends or on a date, but I would think twice before having a group event there.

Not too shabby. My friends and I went here for the first time on Tuesday's open mic night. It is free admission but there is a two item minimum. However, if you get there when the show is about to start (8PM), you can get away with ordering 1 or no items at all. There is only 1 or 2 waiters and they are constantly running around trying to fill other people's orders so they don't really pay attention if you don't order anything. My friend ordered nachos and a drink while the show was going on and she waited for half an hour. Plus they tacked on a 18% gratuity for her bill which didn't seem very fair. Otherwise the comedians were OK, the younger ones were very funny and the headliner was good. We would go there again.

I hate Comcast--get a new ticketing agent, Helium. the place wasn't totally awful although it was smaller than I expected, labyrinthine, low-ceilinged and a little on the dingy side. The first two acts were pretty funny, but the headliner Patrice O'Neil was pretty bad overall. the drinks were really good and generous: my hurricane came in an entire half carafe, like you normally get house wine in. the real problem was being doublecharged by those snakes at comcast (who already get most of paycheck for what they charge in cable and internet fees). they refused to take off the doublecharge, but my bank is going to intervene. the surly lady at comcast told me I had to go to the box office to sort it out, wouldn't let me talk to a manager ("no one can help you here"), just flat-out refused to do anything, and then hung up on me. What stellar customer service from a small assortment of grade A morons! Will never use their ticketing service again.

A great time. I've been to Helium several times over the past few months and have had an enjoyable experience each time. I've never had any trouble with the management or waitstaff, they've always been polite - but maybe that's because we respected the acts and our neighbors by keeping our conversations to a minimum and refrained from heckling or shouting out inane things during the show. If you want to see some good comedy and are able to pay attention to the show without making comments to the comedian or to each other every two seconds, I think you'll have a great time and leave without any complaints.

Terrible acts and managment. I have never been compelled to write a review before tonight. My friends and I were at Helium for a show and were having a great time, until the headliner, JOE MATARESE, came on. We were laughing along, even though he wasn't nearly as funny as the opening acts. We were whispering to each other about the things he was saying, because we were amused. We were then asked to leave because we were talking and disturbing Joe. Apparently he wanted to "punt [my friend's] head off" since he thought we were disrupting him. So we left and talked to a manager, Jeff, who basically told us it was our fault for laughing with each other and told us to leave. This place not only has pathetic acts who are too touchy for comedy but also have pitiable management who will stick by their pathetic acts rather than the insulted customer.

Great place. We had a blast at Helium. We first heard about it from Preston and Steve on MMR. This place is great. The setup is vaguely similar to Second City in Chicago in that it's a smallish stage with a small audience (250 seats max).

No smoking, good drinks, pretty good snack food and pretty good noise control (that one guy at our place who was loud ended up being shushed by the entire audience).

Be aware of the two item minimum in the showroom. You can cut costs by getting two sodas but if you get drinks and some food be prepared to spend an additional 20-30 per person.

Overall, it was a great place. We're already planning another night at Helium.

Great place to see comedy. I have been to Helium a bunch of times and I always had a great experience. I have never had a problem with the staff, but I have been annoyed by people carrying on their own converstaions and I was thankful that security asked them to be quiet. I am there to listen to the comedian tell jokes, not there to hear people next to me discuss things. I suggest waiting until after the show to talk. I think helium is a great place to go if you are looking for something different to do and want to see great live comedy.

Whaaaaaaaaaa. To Whateva: Whaaaaa, I have to be quiet during a comedy show. If you had any sense you would realize that comics want you to shut up too. I'm sure other patrons will be happy you wont be appearing at this comedy venue as well. You probably one that doesnt tip either or talks in a movie.

Otherwise

Bravo to Helium

Thanks for bringing comedy back to town

Save your money, go else were.. Talk about being filled with hot air. The comedy was good but the staff was the joke. For a place that is pretty new, it sure can get dirty fast.

Real stand-up in Philadelphia!. The place is intimate, moderately priced and is the first legitimate home for bigtime comedy that Philadelphia has had in some time. Open mics on Tuesdays are fun and free and Wednesdays thru Saturdays assure solid shows with local openers. Philadelphia's comedy scene is finally coming together!
