In Short
The entire establishment speaks to "modern Mediterranean" with a feel-good vibe from the Casablanca-esque candlelight-lit entrance and the custom stained glass wall to the velvet covered seating and crisp, white mosaic-tiled walls. Byblos is open for both lunch and dinner; with a former Rouge chef serving Greek, Spanish and Middle Eastern dishes. After dinner, the DJ turns up the music and the crowd shifts in to drink and dance mode.

We walked into Byblos with some out of town guests and were seated by the waitress. We ordered drinks and appetizers, they came, but 2 min later the waitress told us we had to move our seats immediately. We tried to be accommodating but they tried to squeeze 6 of us into a 4 person booth and crammed 2 chairs in the aisle- which completely blocked the waiters trying to get from one table to the next and hence we had to stand up every few minutes to let them pass. We decided it was too much, asked for the check so that we could move on. The owner then screamed, make them pay for everything (which I think the check for right?) and proceeded to call my girlfriend b*tch and slu t while she paid. Needless to say I am a little confused why the owner reacted so horribly to us when the mistakes were theirs and we tried to make the best of it...besides, it is not like we were taking up a table, there were plenty of empty tables (wonder why!). The owner then started screaming at his waitress who looked very scared. He is abusive and should not be in the business of customer service. Oh, and I hope that he trips, fall on his face, and breaks his nose.

I had a truly amazing night until closing. They served us until literally just before 2 am and then things changed. My 9 dollar drink was literally taken from my hand at 2:03 am after spending several hundred dollars in the bar. The manager was equally unfriendly and wouldn't even let us go to the restroom after 2:00am. Even after complaining to the Philly police they grudgingly let us back in. We were literally made fun of in the bar upon reentry. I have never been treated so poorly in a bar. I would honestly avoid this bar at all costs if you want to have a good night in Philly. My group was truly appalled at the treatment.

I have been to the place several times for lunch and a few times for dinner. The service was always good and personable; the staff was very attentive to our needs. The food is always totally awesome – never failed me once! Their homemade hummus is out of this world! Very good vine selections and perfect Bloody Mary and Seabreeze. I always recommend this place to all my friends.
