Editorial Review for Byblos – by Hilary Mackler
In Short
The entire establishment speaks to "modern Mediterranean" with a feel-good vibe from the Casablanca-esque candlelight-lit entrance and the custom stained glass wall to the velvet covered seating and crisp, white mosaic-tiled walls. Byblos is open for both lunch and dinner; with a former Rouge chef serving Greek, Spanish and Middle Eastern dishes. After dinner, the DJ turns up the music and the crowd shifts in to drink and dance mode.

I visited this place for the first time a couple of weeks back on a recommendation from a co-worker. We were greeted by two large bouncers who poccessed the social skills of a cave man. Then we went inside. There were two odd looking women working the club. They both looked me and my girlfriend in the face and never said a work. So we proceeded past them and tried to seat ourselves. The place was crowded, noisy, and just wierd. There were no space at the bar, no tables available, no one offered to helped us. So we ended up just walking out.

I don't understand the negative reviews on here. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Philly-- I have been there with many friends for celebrations, etc., ordered many of the dishes, even made substitutions, and it has always been excellent, with a wonderful ambiance. I have not been there later at night for the dancing, which seems to be where some people's issues arise, but for the food alone, it is one of the best around!
Pros: wonderful varied menu, excellent ambiance, hookah if you want it
Cons: N/A
