There's a reason that Bistro 7 has become such a beloved institution in the city: Chef Michael O'Halloran is one of the top chefs in the region. His food, deeply personal and rooted in the classics yet always creative, is nothing short of fantastic.
sad it wasn't special. have wanted to eat at bistro 7 for a long time. finally did tonight but disappointed. food was okay, waiter not okay (not friendly at all) and interior design lacking. woman who cleared table and served dessert was charming. not worth the wait.
Best meal ever!. I went there with 5 woman spanning 3 generations. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated immediately. We ordered 2 appetizers, a melt in your mouth gnocchi and a greens and apples salad with an amazing flavor. Three people ordered the bass, one the salmon, and I had the Burgundy And Rosemary-Braised all natural beef short ribs. It was hands down the best meal I have ever had at a restaurant. The side was not what is listed on the online menu but was a small (just right) portion of fried potatoes which allowed the beef to be the meal. When dinner was over there was not a trace of food on anyone's plate. 5 woman and no take home box. We were all well fed, not stuffed, and no room for the yummy looking desserts. A great shout out to the staff who were all friendly and helpful in making our selections. Next time I go to the city I will be going back to Bistro 7 for dinner!
Best Dinner in Philadelphia. We had the best dinner ever last night. We arrived for our 8:00pm reservation a few minutes early, and heard three different parties come out, describing how wonderful their meals were. That certainly was a good sign. We started off with delicious gnocchi and escargot. I had the salmon with risotto while my boyfriend had the pork with butternut squash puree. Both entrees were fresh and scrumptious. For dessert, we shared the cup of chocolate creme and the coconut jasmine rice pudding which were both delectable. I would definitely go to Bistro 7 again and highly recommend this place to others! It only seats 45 people making it is great for smaller parties or dates.
The best BYOB in town.. Get there early and take a seat in the tiny bar area while waiting for your table. Sip a glass of wine and watch the chef and cooks prepare the various evening dishes in the small kitchen right in front of you. A gourmet delight !!
Great BYOB in Old City. Went for dinner on Sat night and it was fabulous as usual. We were seated on time and the tables weren't too close. The ever changing menu selections as well as the chef's choice of seasonings guarantee variety and an interesting menu. Just make sure to save room for desert! The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes. Definitely one of the top restaurants in Old City.
Absolutely wonderful!. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The food is always of exceptional quality, the service is efficient and friendly, and the atmosphere is elegant but comfortable. Portions are huge, and the prices are unbelievable -- they could charge twice as much and it would still be an excellent value. The pate and the steak frites are especially good, but I have eaten here many times and never had a bad meal. My only hesitation in recommending it so highly is that I don't want it to get so popular that I can't get a table!

Somewhat disappointing experience for the price.
Service was attentive, decor nice and clean even if tables are tiny. Food delivery was achingly slow- perhaps because it was a weekend evening.
The food selection was interesting, with a nice range from simple to complex, and a bit busy dishes. We had 4 of the apps- all were well made and enjoyed. 3 of the 4 entrees were well received, although you should note that the "doneness" level was low- ie the medium steak frites was seared on the outside and translucent inside and the duck was similarly treated. Both were still enjoyed.
The fish entree was a mess- warm, yet ovecooked, snapper in a tomato-based broth that included pasta and mussels. Maybe I am being overly picky since everyone else enjoyed their meals more.
Or maybe Chloe was better, just around the corner, has bigger tables and somehow still costs less?
Too many great options in the area to go here..
Living in Old City we frequent many of the restaurants in the area. There were four of us at dinner and we were far from impressed with the meal. While the appetizers and desserts were excellent, only two of the entrees were palatable. In particular a stewed pork dish was inedible (and I eat ANYTHING) and the vegetable dish was loaded with Rosemary to the point that it tasted like you were eating the herb itself.
A butter lettuce salad started the night off well, and following the unsatisfying entree, a unique rice pudding dish saved the meal. According to their website they rotate their menu frequently so hopefully I caught the chef in a lapse of creativity.
The service was simple and friendly and unlike many BYOB's they accept credit cards.
Very pleasant after-theater experience. We had a delightful dinner at Bistro 7 after the theater on a weeknight. The service was impeccable- friendly and attentive but not intrusive-- and the food was excellent. I found the prices completely reasonable, I had a delicious fingerling potato omelet with creme fraiche and caviar and a beet terrine, my companion a duck breast with a mound of complex and flavorful lentils and perfectly cooked haricots verts. The food is enlivened with nice touches-- three kinds of beets in the terrine, touched with mint; an unusual flavor combination that works just fine. The olive oil for the bread, which is indeed fabulous, is flavored with fennel. The bill was less than $60, including tax and tip, which seemed more than reasonable. The restaurant offers a five-course tasting menu for $35 per person; we plan to return to try this.
Best dirty towels on floor.
Overlooking the one and only bathroom, I was seated to observe the rest room behavior of the other patrons. Perhaps a dissertation will follow. Also, I was seated to observe the dirty towels under the kitchen preparation table. Yes, the only bathroom and kitchen are right next to one another.
When I said something to the manager, he only told me they were making plenty of money and did not much care if I came back or not.
