One of a select few Philly bars that serves food till 2am! Get the Kelly's Burger — super-simple, just cheddar and bacon. The best.
Subpar food, poor seating.
My boyfriend and I have been to most of the pubs in Philly, and we tried this one for the first time last night --it fell far below the mark. The menu looked good on paper, but the reality was quite unpleasant. The green beans were hard--not juicy--and they were salty and charred-tasting. (The ones at White Dog are delicious!) The dipping sauce they came with was entirely flavorless--we couldn't even tell what it was.
The sausage sandwiches consisted of good sausage, a good roll, one flimsy piece of lettuce, and about a gallon of spicy mustard. There was so much mustard that you couldn't even taste anything else.
The side salad of baby greens was fresh and generous, but the dressing on it was completely flavorless... it might as well have been water.
We had tried to go once before, but every square inch of space was packed with people, so we couldn't get in. Some outdoor seating would improve the place immensely. Even Monday night when it was relatively empty, it was still VERY loud in there. The tables are so close together that you can hear every word from your neighbors three tables away. It was very chilly--I can overlook that as a fluke--but the restaurant is also always bizarrely dark, to the point where it's hard to read your menu.
We decided it wasn't worth ever going there again.
And that was halfway through our meal.
And that was before we dashed out, jumping up and down to warm ourselves because we were chilled to the bone.
Unfortunately, it was just not good : (
gastro-pub fare (tasty), rude staff.
They have tasty, large, juicy burgers, wide variety of domestic/import beer, belgian fries.
rude, confrontational bartender EVERY time we go
Not so Nice. I always hear about how terrific this bar is, but when I went the bartender was really barky and rude, and the fries are way too salty for my taste.
Great neighborhood bar. Their food menu is small, but everything on it is done well (especially the fries with the Monk's dipping sauce). They have a very nice selection of beer for reasonable prices with good seasonal choices on tap. The bartenders are knowledgeable and will always give good suggestions if you want to try something different or new.
Great Beer, Great Service. I've never had a bad service experience here, it's always been pleasurable. They have a great Trappiste beer selection, as well as other beers from around the world, and they make a wickedly good burger (I have never ordered anything else off the menu).
More than just a tavern. The food is amazing, arguably the best burgers in town and sausages that are to die for. The staff are the kind of people you're thankful to have run into at the bar and talked to all night. I feel like there's never been a bad night at grace. Reese, one of the bartenders, makes my nights feel well spent and the tall and gorgeous cook is my eye candy dessert.
Avoid it.. If you like rude bartenders, this is your spot. Otherwise try the Yell'o Bar, just down the street or Ten Stone just two blocks away. Both offer better selection of food and drink and no rude bartenders.
Surprisingly good local hang out!. Make sure you go on nights of the week when Reese is working the bar. The food is cheap, quick to come out, and really tasty! Decent selection of beers and drinks. The atmosphere is really laid-back and comfortable. I recommend trying it if you're in the area!
Tasty food; great prices. I went to Grace with a friend who lives in the neighborhood and was very impressed. The beer was reasonably priced, the burgers were absolutely mouth-watering (as were the fries and dip that accompanied them) and the Cajun green beans were delicious. We each had two beers, burgers, fries and beans for under $40. I'll be back!
good place for fries and beer- not for food.. The fries are Grace Tavern are great- as are the cajun spiced green beans (though very very salty). However, I was very dissappointed when I ordered a vegan burger and recieved what looked like a veggie burger I could buy frozen at the supermarket. The friends I was with ordered burgers and sausages- and although they were not as disappointed as I was- they were not impressed with the food. All in all- I would recommend going there for beer and fries (the atmosphere is nice)- but not for dinner.
