What People Are Saying About Grace Tavern

In Short – Although it opened in 2004, Grace feels like it's been around forever, perhaps because the space it occupies had been a bar for decades. While the space was given a quick redo, the local vibe remains. The beer list runs the gamut from Miller Lite to microbrews, while a spot-on bar menu of handmade sausages, killer burgers (including a vegan burger) and the famous frites from sister restaurant Monk's have made it a quick favorite.
Stop..Don't do it!

Well it took about 20 minutes for the bartender to come over and give me and my friend a drink and when he did he didn't even ask us if we wanted to see a menu. I am very disappointed in this place, we were looking for a new hangout. 2 THUMBS DOWN
- Pros: There are no pros
- Cons: This place is a dungeon and I been to few crappy bars
The worst dining experience of my life
by isladelsol
Of the hundrers of offerings during Beer Week we decided to try Grace Tavern w/out of town guests. What a mistake. Neither the bar or dining area were crowded but we were unable to order a beer. Not an unreasonable expectation in a bar during Beer Week. The waiter initially ignored us then verbally attacked us & demanded that we apologize because we had tried to get his attention. It was so absurd that initially we thought he was joking, then he continued his demeaning rant until we left to spend our money elsewhere. Our sandwiches were served on rolls that were charred & blackened from the broiler. Why?? Food should never leave the kitchen looking that way. Philadelphia has so many wonderful pubs there is no need to go to Grace Tavern.
- Cons: Arrogant waiter, sub par food
You gotta have the beans!

I loved this place and will be going back! It's hard to get a seat either at a table or the bar because there simply aren't enough of them, but while you're waiting for something to open up you can enjoy some great beer. We had the fries, blackened green beans and jambalaya and they were all outstanding - even the fries! The blackened green beans are addictive and the jambalaya has great flavor and just the right amount of heat. Don't let any of the negative reviews stop you from trying this place. Don't get it wrong - it's a bar, bar and it's far from swanky and trendy, but if you go in with that in mind you will not be disappointed! Oh, and the staff was great - no one rude, nasty or blind to an empty pint glass! Enjoy!
- Pros: blackened green beans
- Cons: small
