Editorial Review for Aiko – by Brian Suber
The Scene
The bar features striking decor, hardwood floors and revolving tinted lights that shade the obligatory Buckhead throng, somewhat sinister door guys and lightning-fast bartenders serving reasonably priced drinks. An adjoining patio offers a break for banter and a row of cozy tables offer ample space to relax.
The Draw
Depending on when you arrive, you may savor morsels, swig half-price cocktails, chat up VIP lounge cuties or demonstrate your latest MTV moves. Live DJs play techno and remixes on the weekend nights and the mixed crowd soaks up the pop-light sounds. The maddening parking situation can be a headache, but reasonable drink prices and entertaining crowd offer a first-class sedative.

I am a sushi snob. Aiko meets all my criteria for an outstanding sushi bar. They have very fresh ingredients, trendy rolls and wonderful service.

Lesson Learned: Don't be too shocked if your food is really small and your bill is really big. If you want to save a little bit of money then I suggest you eat before you get there and aim for Happy Hour when some menu items are reduced 50%. I recently dined at Aiko. Although I'm not a sushi fan, I would go for their Crab Kisses appetizer and calamari. They're so good! It’s the only reason I go. If Aiko comes up in conversation, I always tell whomever to order them. Since I hadn't been to Aiko in so long, I was craving them. I was so excited until the waitress brought out these teeny tiny, itty bitty crab kisses. Needless to say I was disappointed. Even the calamari appetizer had less on the plate. I remember the kisses being very plump and the creamy crab meat would practically ooze out when you bit into them. This time, it looked like someone had siphoned out my yummy creamy crab meat and left me with dried up kisses with a pathetic little bitty bump where the crab stuffing once was. To me, they were more like Crab Pecks than Crab Kisses. I must have made a comment about their size to my friend because the waitress asked if everything was ok. I asked her if something had changed and the waitress said "I haven't been here very long but other customers have said something about it too". My friend, who frequents Aiko, also said they were smaller, "Remember when we could share them?" As I ate them really slowly in an attempt to relish the experience, I thought I should give Aiko benefit of the doubt. Perhaps the cook is new and didn't know he should put crab in the crab kisses. Or, perhaps I was just in denial things have changed and now this is how it is. :( Oh well!
Pros: food is good
Cons: small portions, high prices
