great food and margeritas. Went there for the first time on a double date.. food was GREAT, i had the enchiladas.. fresh guac was awesome too. tried the blackberry and basil margheritas which were also amazing. Only drawback was that we sat outside which was nice but the table was on a HUGE slant.
Good food, stupid rules..
I went to Lolita for the first time last night with a group of women from work. We got there early (5:00) and were the ONLY people in the place. We were still waiting for 1 of the 5 of us and we were told that we could not be seated until the whole party was there. I understand rules like that when it is busy and crowded. But, NO ONE was in the restaurant. It seemed goofy and the snobbish attitude turned me off from the start.
Luckily, unlike the manager, the waiter was nice and the chefs have the skills to back up the pricing. I'll be back, I just hope the manager has the night off that day.

I went to Lolita for the first time after hearing a friend rave about the margaritas. We went on a Friday evening and were able to sit outside. Since it is a BYO, we got a pitcher of margaritas and were able to add our own tequila. Yum. The free chips and salsa were good though both salsas were a bit too spicy for my liking. I had the mahi mahi, which was excellent. The portion size was perfect and the flavors of the dish were so good.
As with many small restaurants, the tables inside and out were almost on top of each other. If you're easily distracted, its going to be hard to carry on a conversation since, at times, you can hear the people at other tables better than the person across from you. Also, the wait staff was so fast, almost to a fault. I felt like I might get run down on my way to the bathroom. They also shooed away people who were lingering at their table once they were done since the wait was an hour. That's good for the people waiting but unfortunate for those who want to enjoy the last few sips of their drinks.
Overall, a great experience. I will definitely go back.
Good, Not Great.
Food was 3-4 stars, but everything else detracted from the experience. We were there early (5:30) yet it still was crowed and noisy. People kept coming in and standing in the doorway, leaving the door wide open. We were freezing!
For us there was simply too much going on to actually enjoy our food at Lolita. We will not go back.
Great Place. In contrast to some of the negative reviews, I think the place is great. Had dinner there last night, great margaritas and great food. What else do you look for in a mexican restaurant. As for the $18 per person minimum, you mean the restaurant actually needs to make money!!? What absurd arrogant concept! Lighten up and enjoy people!
ha ha ha..Who is writing these reviews? Seriously?. It's funny to me reading these reviews. I live in the neighborhood and stop in here occasionally after work for a nice dinner. It's easy to get a table during the week and the people that work there seem really down to earth. (To me. But then, I am a reasonable, normal person.) I will ask you, people of city search, would you come to a restaurant and 1.) already have eaten dinner. 2.) don't want to spend more than $18 (dinner in center city mind you) 3.) IF you don't want to wait during the weekend with all the other jersey jocko trash then don't go out to eat on saturday night! Some of these reviews make me really angry, and make me realize why tiny BYOBs have such policies in the first place. Because everyone wants to go there and drink for free and eat for free too. Why don't all you who already ate dinner stay HOME and leave a table open for me. Thanks.
Food is excellent, worth the hour wait, but the service and snobbery I could do without..
I went for Dinner on a Saturday night and there was an hour wait so we went across the street to El Vez for a drink and some guacamole.
We had excellent food. Calamari (not fried) to start and both our entrees were delish! Our waiter, however, barely spoke to us and clearly was not listening to a thing we said. We asked to have our plates wrapped up because we had a significant amount of food left over and he either wasn't listening or forgot! When we asked about our doggie bags when the dessert arrived he dissapeared. To compensate for the food he through out he brought a tiny piece of meat in a to-go-box. It was probably about 1/8 of the amount of food we had left! Needless to say, our waiter ruined our otherwise excellent dinner. If he had given his name or even introduced himself i would call Lolita and let them know.
POOR SERVICE. Went here with a group of 6 for dinner during the week. I've been here before and had great experiences. However, this evening my opinion of this place totally changed! our server was rude and snobby-are you kidding me lady-this is a byob in philadelphia-get a grip! anyway, one of us was not eating dinner but we were told there was an $18 minimum for everyone at the table-I have never heard of such a thing. But, our server was right, it states that on the menu. I think that is absurd! Her attitude and that rule make me never want to go back to this place. BTW-there were 3 tables of loud college students there that night as well-not the kind of crowd I was looking for. There are a ton of BYOB's with better service, food and atmosphere in Philly-Thanks but no thanks Lolita's!
Great food, not so friendly staff!!!. The food is always amazing but everytime I go there the wait staff has an attitude, I'd give them 5 stars if they were friendlier.

This restaurant reminds me of the girl in high school that was beautiful and popular and super bitchy....except at the five year reunion when she's chunky, unsuccessful AND still super bitchy! I read so many good reviews- I should have checked and saw they were all written five years ago. It looks like they've been through a chef or two and now the enchilada tastes like sneakers ( don't listen to the servers, they are awful- and how do you mess up an enchilda!?). I went back again thinking every restaurant has it's bad nights- AND IT WAS WORSE! The fundido was just a giant blob of melted coagulating cheese- something I would make in college if I was really stoned and had a bunch of rotted cheese in the mini fridge. The carne assada (which the waiter swore up and down was fantastic) was mediocre and getting cold when it got to the table.
I can usually drink enough and have a good time despite the food, but what I can't accept is how bitchy the staff was. Both times we were "greeted" by an obnoxious dark haired man who apparantly thinks he's working at the Palm restaurant or something. Even our simplest questions ( can we order an appetizer to start? How does it work with the margeritas? How many does the guacamole serve?) were answered briskly and borderline nasty by our waitress (the blond with the pixie cut has some deep attitude problem she'd like to work out in front of you, watch out!). Weird.
The juices for the margeritas are pretty good though.
