Worst salon in philly, I wish I could give less stars..
Just FYI Amy writes her own good reveiws, so be warned.
Amy is the owner/only stylist at Twist Salon and she is simply incapable of communication. She just doesn't listen. And uses words she doesn't understand.
I went in to Twist to get my hair colored and trimmed. my hair was bleach blond and damaged I wanted a few colors (red, brown, purple, and blonde)to make it more fun while I grew it out, and she told me to buy the purple dye beforehand (?!)
The problem ended up being that she had booked a friend of hers to be seen at the same time as me. So she rushed through rinseing the purple out. And it started running into the other colors right away. I commented on this but she brushed it off as normal.
I told her the problem i was haveing with my hair (a serious cowlick) and she preceded to cut the hair around my cowlick as short as possible makeing it stand up strait on end. I told her I was growing out layers and she added more, and shorter layers. The woman can not be bothered with clients.
This whole time she was selling Redkin products HARD it was like listening to a demented infomercial. fyi, Redkin products suck.
I called her that same night asking her what i should do about my whole head (and hands and clothes and furniture) turning purple, and she got back to me the next day saying that it spread because my hair was too porous and damaged. (not something you say after the fact) and told me to wash it a few time with a harsh shampoo and made a follow up appointment for later that afternoon. Saying she would dye a few chunks black (even when i objected) So i went online and found some information about shampooing your hair in sections,(not what she told me to do) and it worked! but I figured I would go in to repair the spots I couldn't rescue. When I came in she was mid way through another clients hair (poor dear) and ignored me for 15 minutes. When she did get me into the chair she was happy to see that i had repaired it, and started talking about bleaching out more spots. When I asked her if that would make my hair more damaged and more susceptible to the purple dye she just continued to talk over me.
So I stood up and left, telling her that if she wouldn't listen she shouldn't be doing hair.
Now this is the part i am embarrassed about. After walking home I realized that I had to get this repaired, and there was no way I could afford it. So I sucked up my pride and walked back over to ask for a refund, I asked nicely and explained that I would need to get this fixed by a professional. At that point she threatened to call the cops.
She is a crazy person and a bad stylist plain and simple.
I hope you go down the street to Suger instead, the owner/stylist there is amazing.
Terrible. You will only leave in regret..
So, I sit in the chair and she starts cutting. I never mentioned that I wanted a one inch length on the back of my head. Yes, I wanted assymetrical but assymetrical does not necessary mean that the back of the head of hair has to be short. I have been going to my uncle's hair shop in Bridesberg since I was young and he had instructed me on how to explain the hair cut to a stylist so that I may receive the best cut possible that matched with my preferences.
So she started cutting away. I didn't say anything on the strange way that she was cutting it because I figured that it was just a technique that was used for curly styles. No, I was wrong. At one point I felt the back of my head and I had about an inch of hair left. I stood up and told her that this was not what I wanted. I basically had a panic attack. She told me that I needed to calm down and I told her that it was not what I wanted and that she cut my hair WAY too short. I told her specifically that I wanted length. She said that we talked about it before she started cutting and that it was going to look beautiful. I told her that again, it was not what I wanted and it was way too short. She told me that I said that I wanted an assymetrical look and that I didn't know what I was talking about. She told me that I could sit down and finish the hair cut or I could leave. She told me that she had never had anyone react the way did I did and that no one disrespects her the way that I was doing and that I was nowhere close to a hair stylist and that again, I had no idea what I was talking about. I said, Are you crazy? She told me I had to leave because no one calls her crazy. She insulted me by stating that I was from the Northeast and she knew that I was crazy the moment I walked into the door. I left the salon and drove to Headhunters in NE Philadelphia.
I now have a haircut that I completely did not ask for. It's horrible because I never suspected that a person would feel so self-righteous about their services when there is no reason or logic into what they are saying. Just because I am not a hair stylist does not mean that I don't know what an assymetrical hair cut is. I have had them plenty of times and it does not mean that the back of my head should have an inch of hair on it. No one should have to deal with this absurd woman who believes that the fantasy hair styles that she conjures in her head have anything to do with reality and the desires of her clientele. I hope that something can be done so that no more people will have to leave the salon insulted with a head of hair that they did not ask for.
I love this place. The stylist is really nice and fun. The chops are a reasonable price and she try to give you a hip chop the way you want it.
I would recommend for a simple cleanup, but if you want to try something different and fun, she's well worth it.
The only drawback is that this is a one woman show. So you're really on her schedule.
I'm never going back to this place again!!.
If you want a good haircut, DO NOT GO HERE?.unless what you want is completely uneven, flat, unflattering or any shade of the rainbow. If it?s not neon or some bright hair color or a dramatic chop then she?s unenthusiastic and FORCED?which may lead to unpleasant or unsatisfactory haircuts???????????
I?ve spent massive amounts of money on hair products/accessories to make my hair look decent everyday after the 1-dimensional, boring, and flat haircut this woman gave me. Now I just wear my hair up everyday to avoid the hassle. This place is definitely NOT RECOMMENDED. A blind person could?ve done a better job on me.
Don't do it!.
I decided to use Twist Salon thinking I could get a really CHIC yet somewhat funky haircut. I was soo WRONG!!! She gave me a totally SHAPELESS chop shop style. Hair grows but it's going to take me years to fix her mistake. I definitely agree with other reviews about her personality. She may be all cool and fun and she may have some great ideas but I feel she cannot execute her creativity. I absolutely agree with the previous reviewer saying this woman: 1) does not value your input 2) poor communication 3) she talks over you/interrupts and does not listen to what you have to say . For me, I wish she had taken the time to consider what I was looking for as far as length, hair texture and my features. I really think she gave me a shapeless cut that does not compliment my features at all. She was also 20 minutes late for my appointment (I can't believe I was dumb enough to continue with the appointment even though she was late) and there was no one ahead of me and hardly apologized for it. Anywhere else this would've been totally unacceptable!!
....My advice, look elsewhere! You will receive better quality and service.
I hope anyone reading this does NOT go here especially after all the bad (and similar) reviews.
Super Fun, Sassy Rock Chick who needs to take a business class.
Absolutely the most fun stylist ive ever been to, tons of talent, great place to come for a new look. Avoid her busy hours, espeically if you want her to spend time with you. She simply needs to hire help. Despite an awesome cut and three referrals i sent to her, the half-assed coloring job left two spots on the underside of my hair and her lack of empathy leave her business questionable. She did not value my own input to my own hair after returning to get my roots redone. Communcation is poor with her customers despite the returned phone calls (she will talk over you, not listen to what you have to say), and her pride is so big to push me right out of her salon.
I feel ripped off after spending $300 in a cut, color, and 3 mini-sized products because I cant redeem this investment considering she hung up on me after trying to schedule an appointment to get my roots redone. Definately reporting this to the Bureau.
Oh, and sister, you're cool and everything, but please take a class in business ethics. You wanna keep customers (who send in their friends and give you at least $300 in work a month).
NIGHTMARE!. My visit to the salon started off fine and I explained to her how I wanted my hair. She seemed like she understood what I wanted. I gave her a picture of exactly what I wanted and when she finisied it was awful. My hair is one length on one side and a different length on the other. I understand artisitc expression, but she clearly just does not know how to cut hair for the life of her. If you are looking for a place that is going to do something new... READ REVIEWS FIRST! I read the previous review and it is clearly the owner vouching for herself since she probably is struggling with getting business. My hair looks like a six year old cut and the highlights seaped all over and onto my other hair and the color is awful. The hair looks gray!! I had an ink spot on my forehead for a week and my scalp was stained. There was also an ink spot on the back on my neck for about a week and a half. I recommend she find a new profession!
Rock and Roll. Twist is the perfect place to get that rock star haircut you've always dreamed of. I've been going there for a couple years now, and it's never failed to be a most excellent time, and a most excellent style. The walls are adorned with posters of the Stones, Dylan and Iggy, and there's always something good playing on the stereo. You're appointment may not start right on the dot, but there's plenty of back issues of Mojo to flip through while you wait. I highly recommend Twist for girls and guys who don?t want to look like fashion clones, but would still like a sweet haircut. However, if hanging out and listening to records really isn?t really your thing, then you should probably just get your hair done at the mall because you're lame.
WORSE SALON EVER!. This lady is absolutely crazy and the worst stylist/hairdresser ever! She should be reported and be put out of business. She completely chopped all my hair off and did not do what I asked for at all. She continued to cut even after I told her to stop. It was SOO BAD that I had to buy a wig! I politely told her she cut all of my hair off and she started threatening me, saying derogatroy remarks, and using profanity. If anyone decides to go here to get there hair done... you will be permantely scarred for life. She even showed up an hour late for my appointment. SOO UNPROFESSIONAL!
