Tips for Avalon Restaurant

What happened?. Oh, Avalon what happened to you? You were once one of my favorite restruants but last Saturday's dining experience was one of the worst I ever had.

First, I asked for a quiet table. I spent the evening yelling at my husband because it was so loud.

Second, service, our server was never around and our order took a very long time. I asked others for him but no one could seem to find him.

Third, food. My husband ordered a Organic salad ($9) which equated to 3 or 4 pieces of salad and some sprouts. I ordered the Caprise Salad ($8) which had more because it had cheese. For the main course my husband ordered the black and white ravoli ($24) which was 4 ravoli and I ordered the Salmon ($18) which was two very slender slices of salmon and NO VEGETABLES. There were no side vegetables to order on the menu. We did not have dessert, mostly out of frustration.

I have not ever reviewed a restaurant before but we were so unhappy and I felt others needed to know.

Just ok. We went because of the prix fixe menu. 4 courses for $27 and I got an email coupon for $10 off, so you just can't beat that. Sat outside which is a lovely patio. Service is slow (which we like) and very friendly. The crab in the appetizer and ravioli was very fishy and watery, tasted canned or frozen. Definitely NOT lump crab as stated. The agnolotti were very good. Salmon was overcooked, but pork shoulder was very, very tasty. Overall, stay away from the seafood, but everything else was tasty. Wouldn't go back, but I think for the price, if you're willing to order wisely, it's not bad.

Always a Dining Pleasure. I have been to Avalon numerous times and would recommend it to anyone. It is rare to find a restaurant which such outstanding food and service that is also a good value. My idea of the perfect evening includes taking a bottle of my favorite bottle of Pinot Noir to Avalon for a memorable meal!

Perfect Portions. My husband and I tried Avalon for the first time on Valentine's Day. The atmosphere was cozy with a wood burning fireplace. Our waiter was great. He took our compliments personally which makes me feel like he truly likes his job and takes pride in the restaurant. Our portion sizes were perfect and the food was excellent. I will definately go to Avalon again!

A Distinctive Difference. What an awesome surprise right in our backyard. I would highly recommend this upscale modern gem. The food was fabulous. You definitely have to try the Misto which is the antipasto introduction which was wonderful. We had the tasting menu which was a great way to try a variety of the menu. It's a BYOB so it's even better on your wallet!

Worth the Price. My husband and I went to Avalon to celebrate an early Valentine's Date midweek. We were seated promptly and enjoyed the ambiance of candle light and not being in a crowded room and hearing everyone elses conversations. We were lucky to get a praking space right out front and could see the car from our table. We were given a complimentary Pear Bellini, which was very tasty along with bread and roasted peppers. Although we did not know about the corkage fee in advance, it was listed in the menu and it was reasonable. The waitstaff was very attentive. We had the prix fixe menu and it gave us a good sampling of what they offered. The only complaint would be that no bread was offered with a dish that had a lot of tasty broth, but when asked, it was brought to the table. I had a pasta dish that I felt the pasta was a bit undercooked. The desserts of Tirimasu and the chocolate dessert were good finish to our meal. Would definitely go back, but would like to see what they offer in a different season.

Best BYOB in West Chester. Avalon is a wonderful byob in West Chester. This is the 3rd time we have dined there and have never been disappointed. The food is fresh, interesting and beautifully presented. The menu is eclectic and changes seasonally. The atmosphere is chic and

romantic with dim lighting, candles and a fire in the fireplace. Highly recommend.
