Under-the-radar — and literally underground (steps down from the street) — Afghani kabobs in Center City. Super-friendly service too. Take advantage.

Venture to the underground to have some of the best kabob you've ever had. Start with spicy green chutney and bread, move on to the eggplant and lamb and finish with some pistachio baklava. BYO some vodka to wash it down.
A little bit hard to find, but worth the effort. I love this place. Best Middle Eastern (well its Afgani, so quasi-middle eastern) food in Philadelphia. Prices are very reasonable, and they cook the kabobs right in the entry so your mouth is watering the moment you set foot inside. They make their own delicious bread, and the kabobs are the things dreams are made of, the meat is always perfectly seasoned and beautifully charred on the outside, juicy and tender all the way through. The veggies on the kabobs are awesome and their home-made dressings are fantastic. I have never had a dish here I didn't enjoy, but I particularly love the kabob salad platter with a hot kabob and a cold fresh cucumber & tomato rich salad with yogurt dressing. yum! the staff is friendly and the place is obviously a family businee because you often see a little girl running around who is more than happy to help out whoever is working :) Also the place is always spotlessly clean. Its a little hard to find, as you must enter by going down stairs (it is underground) just keep looking on your left walking from 15 to 16 and you'll see the small sign and the entrance below. Enjoy!
Pleasant homy sit-down kabob place.
The food is very much worth the perils of the the walk down the steep steel stairs and past the galley kitchen.
Make sure you observe the spotless food prep environment, and that you know your clothes will smell of grilling when your done. The atmosphere is definitely casual, and the service friendly if not exactly attentive.
Otherwise the great bread, apps and well prepared kabobs and rice are great and a great value and definitely worth braving the perilous entry way.
