Newtown >Piccolo Trattoria
I am a local resident and have ordered from Piccolo in the past. It was nothing to rave about but it wasn't bad either. This one specific experience left a very sour taste for me. I came in ordering a salad and asked if I could customize it. I explained what I wanted and the gentlemen said "That's a ceasar with different dressing, is that what you want? " I responded with a
"Yes but could I please have thousand island dressing." He then said, "We don't have thousand island, do you want balsamic?" instead of telling me the dressings he did have. He seemed very aggiated and was semi rude during the conversation. After arriving home, the salad didn't have the eggs that I specified that I wanted and the chicken was burnt, not to mention the salad was over $11, which I felt was pricey. I won't be returning as I felt the customer service was poor. I always rave about the customer service I recieve in businesses in Newtown ...for the exception of this place. Hopefully, everyone else has a better experience than mine.
Fabulous Food ... service doesn't match.
Our food could not have been better, each dish (there were 3 of us) succulent in its' own right, wonderful interpretations that absolutely stood up and sang. Jealousy began to creep into our thought train as we tried to discern how we could achieve such artistry. The overall experience was marred somewhat by the noise level; tolerable, yet quite fixable.
However, the absolute killer was the service, but ONLY by the lead waitress. Support staff couldn't have been more attentive. From being rushed to place our order (even given that a senior was obviously in the throes of deliberation, and quite frankly mystifying, as the waitress was a contemporary, age-wise), to forgetting about several simple requests several times over, to asking (as if she needed to) and then promising fresh pepper and grated cheese for salads, but completely forgetting because she was more interested standing around and obsequiously attending to a 12/18 top, among several other larger check and thus tip-producing tables.
Our entree was delivered seconds after we gave up awaiting said 'fresh ground pepper'. However, the food more than smoothed over this growing irritant, and was sensational.
Overall, we will give this restaurant another try ... some day. BUT should Ms.-Insincere-but-sizing-you-up-for-tip-potential-before-taking-your-order is working the shift, we'll pass, thank you very much.
Oh, by the way, if you have surmised that we're in the business and would normally be more than understanding, you would be right.
But this was not one of those times -- no customer deserves to be marginalised, especially when it is only up until it comes time to collect compensation.
Go for the fabulous food, but don't expect much else ... unless you project as a big tip.
Excellent Chef!!. Absolutely wonderful, creaticve specials. Always fresh and hot!!!! Salads are awesome too. The chef is very nice and friendly and always checks on the customers satisfaction ( he is good looking too). I would recommend this all year long ( especially with the outside seating and the new renovations ( addition!!)

Best Italian Resturant in Newtown. There really is no place better then Piccolo Trattoria for great food , service and value. Even though it is a smaller setting and can seemed rush or packed at times i wouldnt think about going to another Italian resturant in newtown . They also have a great take out service .
I love Piccolo Trattoria! The dishes are all very good and I'm a huge fan of the Brooklyn Pizza.
By far the best Italian food in Newtown
