Don't buy your electronics here!.
I recently visited the Plymouth Meeting store regarding a Nook Color purchase that I made earlier in the day. When we brought home the Nook Color we had difficulty plugging the charger in to the charging port.
We called the store to describe the problem and they said to take it in to get a new one. We arrived at the store around 8:30 pm that night and explained the problem to the cashier. He took a look at the charger and port and replicated the same problem we had. He was a tech savy user and said he did not feel comfortable jamming the charger in to the port. The clerk phoned a manager who was aware of our situation since my wife had spoke with him on the phone. He told the clerk not to mess with the device anymore and they would just replace it. The manager who stated this did not do the return, instead another manager by the name of Jamal was called up to look at the device.
He like the clerk picked up the device and decided to jam the charger in to the port. He looked at us and stated that we had to "work the charger in, it was just tight". He continued to wiggle the charger and loosen the port to make it fit and told my wife that the device would be fine. Needless to say, the charger was not plugged in so there was no proof that he did not damage the port.
Once he was finished trying to smoke us with the "loosening up method of fixing it", I stated to Jamal that I was not comfortable accepting a brand new $250 device that needs to be "worked in".
We all knew that something was not right with the device and I requested that we exchange the device out for a new one. This was met with a hostile "we cannot do that!". When I asked Jamal why, he said because there is nothing wrong with it. As I tried to make sense of the statement that he made, I told him there was obviously something wrong with the device and since we just bought it 3 hours ago I wanted an exchange or full refund.
Jamal authorized a full refund on the product instead of an exchanging the product for us. I don't understand his rationale but that is for Barnes and Noble's management team to figure out. However, what I do know is that due to the lack of knowledge that Jamal had for electronics and his poor customer service skills that I will not make my purchase at a Barnes and Noble for my Nook Color.
Instead, I will make the purchase at a Best Buy, a company who understands electronics, that you do not jam a charger in to the charging port and stands behind their products Very dissatisfied with Barnes and Noble and their staff!
