Tips for Mambo Movers

Not as advertised. This was my experience from early October so be careful if you plan on using them. I would suggest that you find someone else.

They arrived at 10am for our 9am scheduled move. They took several coffee and smoke breaks, and my girlfriend was even nice enough to go and buy them coffee. The move took 6+ hours for a one bedroom.

The worst part was that one of the sofa cushions had a huge coffee stain on it that occured in the truck ride over. The movers told us to call and schedule for them to dry clean it. My girlfriend called and explained the situation to the person who answers the phone. He said they would handle it.

So they called a couple days later on a weekday at 11am and said they could pick it up. Unfortunately people, including us, are at work at those times. Then they had the audacity to make it our problem that we were not available at that time. You would think that they would make it at least semi convenient for us since they are the ones who ruined our cushion. We called back to find out when they could come pick it up and the guy started arguing with us and hung up the phone.

Buyer beware!

They were great. It's weird to say that movers are talented but you have to see these guys work to understand. They could carry so much at once and really worked well together to get everything out and in quickly. Also, they were super nice to work with. It made moving fun!!

Cool guys, skilled movers. Mambo movers made moving actually enjoyable. The movers that came to help me were all cool and took all of the stress out of moving. They were happy to help in any way they could. You can't beat their prices either. Highly recommended. Best movers I've ever used in Philadelphia.

could have move myself better than mambo!!!!!. this past year i moved from queen village to the rittenhouse area and mambo movers came recommended. i was told they were fast and efficient (not true). first i was told that i would pay an hourly rate along with a minimum, which is totally fine and i understand, but when they got to my apartment they actually started counting steps and added on money for the "extra steps"! i moved approximately 15 blocks away. i got to my current apartment in 15 mins, mambo movers arrived 45 min later!!!! why u ask? well they arrived with food and drinks, guess they were hungry. that would be fine if they werent on my time clock and i wasnt paying for their break. then my apartment was on the 4th fl of an old brownstone building and they insisted when COUNTING the stairs it came out to 6 flights so u got it, i was charged extra. now aside from all the extras that were tacked on to my bill, let me tell u about their actual ability to move furniture. most of my furniture has deep scratches on it (ruined), and they put EVERYTHING in one room, and i myself had to move stuff into different rooms, oh they complained about how heavy boxes were. um shouldnt u think about that before being a mover is ur profession!!!!! after it was all said and done and my 15 block 1 bedroom apartment took mambo movers 5 hours to move (previously i lived in conshy and it took the movers 2.5hrs to move me) they had the nerve to ask for a tip...oh me paying for ur stop at wawa wasnt enough, or is a tip a way of thanking them for ruining almost all of my furniture........

Excellent people.....lax on organization!. I had heard wonderful things about Mambo and they had been recommended by several people I know. They were definitely the cheapest around and were the only ones servicing from Philadelphia to further into VA (near Manassas). Booking the movers was very easy and I was confident things would go very well. Until moving day......I had been told that I would be the afternoon move and that the guys would be at my house sometime around 1:00 PM. I heard from the crew around 12:30 that things were going to be moved around and that they wouldn't be at my house until later in the afternoon or evening, say around 5:00. I became quite panicked around 8:00 PM when my stuff still wasn't moved out. They finally arrived at 10:00 PM. I've been told this was a "comedy of errors" that day and the crew was very apologetic. They worked their tails off and were very pleasant, considering the time of day and the fact they hadn't eaten since lunch. The move to VA went much better...they were on time, worked hard and set everything up for me.

The main problem I see is that Mambo doesn't know what the job looks like until they show up. So, if a job is bigger or has some problems, your job could get pushed back....way back! Plus, after hours, there isn't any way to get in touch with folks, except via cell phone of the crew. If they are busy and don't have their phones with them, you have no updates on where things stand. If you can deal with the extreme flexibilty required, then use Mambo! If you are a control freak like me and wanted things to run on time, Mambo probably isn't the company for you.

I do want to say again that I was VERY impressed with the crew! They were hard workers, very jovial and a pleasure to work with!

Cancelled and left me in a bind. After Scheduling this move a month in advance. Mambo calls me today to cancel my move leaving me in a bind. When they did my initial move they were great, but in this one I am stuck now paying a fortune to find someone to move my stuff.

Fabulous movers. My husband and I moved from our condo, which was a third-floor walk-up, to our new house in the 'burbs and these guys were fantastic! We booked them after hearing many positive experiences from friends. They were quick, efficient and responsible. Nothing got lost and they handled my husband's prized big-screen TV with the utmost of care. They also completed the move in just over three hours. Great time considering the multiple trips up and down the stairs at the condo. Highly recommeded!

Excellent move!. Recently we hired Mambo Movers to move us from the apartment to our new house. We heard good things about the company, but the actual experience far exceeded our expectations. The whole move took them just 3 hours including the hoist of the chair to the second floor through the window. Nothing was damaged and the guys were fast, very nice and attentive. Hard to believe, but apparently moving could be fun. Excellent experience!

Highly recommended.

Use Someone Else... ANYONE else..... I had heard good things about Mambo from a co-worker and decided to book them right away.

My husband and I called Mambo at 2pm, after someone had called to confirm they would be arriving by 1pm as originally planned. They said they were running a bit late and would be there soon. We called again at 3 and again at 4.. and the phone kept going right to voicemail. Finally at 4:30 they called and said they were stuck in "traffic" and would be coming soon.

When they finally arrived, we informed them that we would need to be out of the condo by 5, due to building rules. The people at Mambo had guarenteed that this should be ample time to move if we did an early afternoon move. Instead of getting to work right away, the one guy walks away to smoke a ciggarette. My husband and I begin scrambling to help them move things quickly, hoping to relay a sense of urgency.

After we finally load the truck, they inform us they are making a stop to get coffee (and yes, we will get charged for this time)... After they eventually arive at the new house, they start unloading the truck. In the process a lamp gets dropped and shatters all over the floor.

At the end of the 4 hour move, they inform us how much it will be, and are sure to note that does not include tip. My husband, who is much nicer than I, gives them each extra money. We ask them what they plan on doing to compensate us for the lamp they broke, and they ask how much it cost. We tell them it was ballpark 80 dollars or so. One of the movers has the audacity to scoff and say "for that?! really.. 80 dollars?!...." The other mover quickly informs him that he thinks the price is about accurate.

Needless to say, I don't reccomend these guys. They seemed nice enough as people, but very lousy and unprofessional movers.

update:

once talking to the owner of mambo movers about my experience, they apologized profusely and refunded me the money for my lamp. classy move i thought.
