Editorial Review for Sweat Fitness-Queen Village – by Kat McAndrew

In Short
With dozens of treadmills, eliptical trainers and other cardio favorites, along with a sizable weight training area, Sweat does big business with folks looking for traditional fitness programs. Want something a little more interesting? Check out the group class schedule, which offers high-energy workouts like hip-hop cardio, ashtanga yoga and the trampoline-based urban rebounding. This is the only Sweat location to offer tanning.

I've been a sweat member for 6 years. I go to the 24th street, center city and queen village locations and workout 5-6 times per week. I take a variety of classes, use the cardio equipment and lift. I've used two of their trainers as well. On average, I'd say I spend at least 12 hours a week at the gym, so I think I might have a more informed opinion than some of the others out there. I don't understand where the few negative reviews on City Search are coming from - they're totally ridiculous. I'm a petite, unassuming looking woman and I feel very comfortable working out at Sweat. It isn't a pick-up scene like Ballys -it's actually not a *scene* at all. People are really there to exercise. Folks using the gym are curteous and friendly. There are quite a few people who've been going to the same classes I attend for years - they're always chatty and nice. It's never so crowded that you can't get on a machine or can't get into a class. The front desk staff always greet me with a friendly hello. If I'mever lingering at the desk reading a schedule or something they are curteous and ask if I need help with anything. I've never gotten even the slightest bit of 'attitude' from any of the staff! They're always terrific. They usually play good music (which I don't think is too loud - it's a gym - it's not like you can hear the music over your ipod). The equipment is in good condition, they keep it VERY clean, the cardio equipment is all hooked up with individual tv monitors, etc. Pete is an incredible kick-boxing instructor and Megan is one of the best yoga teachers I've ever had. I've was a member of 12th Street and LA Fitness in the past. LA Fitness, as expected, was not a good experience. 12th Street is a great gym, though a bit of a scene. I like the variety of locations and classes I get at Sweat better though. Give Sweat a try. It really is an amazing gym.

Pros: Variety of classes; equipment; knowledgeable trainers; multiple locations

Cons: No cons whatsoever

I use to work out at the PSC before I moved over to Sweat. Nice facility but what I've noticed (and not just this location because I would train at other locations as well) is that the staff is so arogant. I'm not there to chat or socialize with these guys (mostly guys, not the gals), but they need to grow up and take some courses on professionalism, customer service and manners. Really impersonal trainers, and then when you ask for a hand in the gym, it was like pulling teeth and you felt awkward asking. Hopefully things have changed since then, but I left Sweat and am much happier at a smaller gym in Old City.

The equipment and classes are traditional, but the atmosphere, attitude and interior architecture are hip and modern.  See the full editorial review.
