40.008871 -75.292687Jewel of India is closed. They started out doing really well, but it seems like they declined over the past year. Anyway, they're closed now, so we can all let go of any bad experiences.
A Great Place To Recommend To Your WORST Enemy... and even that would be cruel!. I should have known before I even sat down. The walls were filthy, the floor was disgusting, and the buzzing of the refrigerator was consuming. However, against my better judgment, I ate at the "Jewel of India." It was a jewel all right ... never in my life have I had a worse dining experience. The food was greasy and bland and the service was slow and rude. My husband ordered the corn soup and didn't even try it because the broth looked like raw eggs. At the end of meal our waitress told my husband that he "would be punished," for not trying the soup ... we didn't know what that meant but we didn't ask! I got vegetable dumplings in what was supposed to be a "fresh homemade yogurt sauce," but it tasted more like greasy french fries in alfredo sauce. To top off the bad experience, it was expensive. If you value your time, money, and appetite, this is not the place for you.
Avoid at all costs!. After searching frantically for a south indian restaurant in Philadelphia, we were very excited to know that this restaurant had south indian food in their menu (dosa etc) and decided to try them. It was one of the worst experience we ever had. The masala dosa was not crispy and nothing near a south indian masala dosa. The vegetable biriyani was not spicy and tasted awkward. If you want good indian food, please do not go there. The food is also pricy.
Look out. My boyfriend and I have been here several times and always enjoyed the food -- until the time I found a rusty metal washer in my murgh madras. Ugh.
Horrible!!. I am an avid Indian cuisine fan and have tasted Indian food in various different cities in the US as well as overseas, but have never found such horrible food anywhere like this restaurant. Home made food is much better than eating out here. It is a waste of money and definetely not worth it. The cook has absolutely no idea how fine indian cuisine is and can be. Please do not waste your money and time nor spoil your vision and taste experience eating out here.
