Tips for Bridal Sophisticate

The people that work there can be snobbish, but the gowns they carry are beautiful.

Good choices, just be careful. Bridal Sophisticate was very helpful when I first got there. They were the first shop to tell me that pretty much all strapless dresses actually come with spaghetti straps. Since about 90% of the dresses were strapless and I didn't want strapless, that made a big difference. In the end, they were actually able to get me 1 inch wide straps for the dress, but I didn't find that out until she called me the day after when I didn't have the dress on and couldn't see whether spaghetti straps or 1-inch straps. I went with the 1-inch straps figuring they could be made smaller, while spaghettis straps couldn't be made wider. Upon buying my dress they also gave me a goody bag that had a garter, lip balm, and engagement ring key chain and some other nice gifts. I left feeling happy, but didn't remain that way.

When she called to ask the straps I wanted the next day she also mentioned that there would be an additional charge of $100 for the rush order. I had been told the day before that I would not need a rush order.

The dress I tried on was two sizes smaller than what I was ordering, but was dragging all over the floor, despite the fact that I'm 5'10." (I wasn't wearing shoes) The sales woman suggested that the length was fine, and I agreed, figuring it would be at the floor once I put on heels. When the dress arrived, I tried it on with my 2-inch heels and found it looking really short. Clearly, the dress they had for brides to try on was the extra long, and I should have ordered extra long. Instead, I had to try to find flats, which was next to impossible.

The alterations I had to have were very minor: attaching the ready made straps, two small tucks in the top of the dress about an inch long to already existing seems and the bustle. The cost was $200 cash. They did not accept checks or credit cards for the alterations. Although I know the price for wedding dress alterations is usually high, I thought the price was too high for the work done.
