A tiny jewel in Old City.
In Short
Bijou is something of an anomaly in Old City, a sophisticated understatement. This tiny nightspot as its name suggests, a bit of a jewel. Parchment-colored walls are softly lit by conical sconces, an ethereal contrast to sturdy leather chairs. Ten small tables fill the tiny pace to intimate capacity. Ambient music promotes quiet conversation away from the fray of Old City Saturday night. Hungry drinkers can order food from next door's Pizzicato, which with Bijou shares a kitchen and a co-owner.
Good for what it is. I went to Bijou the other night and had mixed feelings. The bar itself has a nice atmosphere. It was somewhat loud for a martini lounge but nice. the drinks were $11 piece but tasty. Well, the martinis were. It seems this place is a one trick pony. It's got anice NY feel but I think a I need a nice NY salary first.
latenight. unfortunately, bijou was destiend to become a trend magnet. come late at night to avoid the overpomped scenesters. the drinks are excellent and the bartender is friendly. the best place in philly for exchanging winks with someone a few tables over.
