In Short
Roy Yamaguchi opened his first restaurant in 1988 in Honolulu, Hawaii, blending European cooking techniques with locally produced ingredients and Asian spices. Today, his Hawaiian-fusion cuisine is served in a sophisticated atmosphere with dark woods, Asian accents and contemporary, island-inspired art. In addition to "Roy's classics" like Hawaiian-style misoyaki butterfish and the popular melting hot chocolate souffle, each location offers daily specials prepared by the local chef, all of whom are trained personally by Roy.

I took my boyfriend to Roy's on 06/16/2008. We were seated right away. We decided on the lobster pot-stickers as an appetizer and for dinner he got the short ribs over broccoli and I chose the Mahi-Mahi with red skinned potatoes. The food was to die for and the service was excellent. The interior is beautiful and includes an upstairs dining area and a bar. The food was a bit pricy but I'll have to splurge again sometime soon! You won't be disappointed.
Pros: The Ambience, service, and food
Cons: a bit pricy but can be overlooked

My Girlfriend and I took a friend here for dinner on a Saturday night. Instead of bread, they serve edamame here. I thought this was a pleasant departure from the routine (besides I really like edamame.) The edamame were perfectly seasoned and had a hint of spice which was a welcome surprise. The cocktails were festive yet small for the price tag. We ordered the sun rise at Haleakala sushi roll and the filet and halapeno gyozas as appetizers. Portions were generous and the gyozas were great. The sushi roll while tasty was a bit shy on the amount of fish and was mostly rice. I ordred the blackened ahi for my appetizer and my girlfriend split the short ribs with her friend. The kitchen was nice enough to split the short ribs onto two plates. I cant Imagine what the normal portion looks like as it looked like two full entrees. The short ribs were melt in your mouth tender and not fatty at all. The tuna was of a very high garde and perfectly married to it's wasabi sauce and baby bok choy. We ordered a bottle of wine with dinner. The wine list is not too extensive but has all it's bases covered. For dessert we had the chocolate souffle and the pineapple upside down cake. The souffle was really a liquid chocolate center cake. You will be disappointed if you are expecting a ramekin with a fluffy risen dessert. However, wrong terminology aside, this was an well received desert at our table. I cant say the same for the pineapple upside down cake which was a bit dry. I wasn't blown away by Roy's. The atmosphere and service are a definite plus. Overall, this is a good value for money and not a tough fri/sat night reservation to get at a short notice.
Pros: Great Service and good value
Cons: Small cocktails
