Editorial Review for Roy's – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Roy Yamaguchi opened his first restaurant in 1988 in Honolulu, Hawaii, blending European cooking techniques with locally produced ingredients and Asian spices. Today, his Hawaiian-fusion cuisine is served in a sophisticated atmosphere with dark woods, Asian accents and contemporary, island-inspired art. In addition to "Roy's classics" like Hawaiian-style misoyaki butterfish and the popular melting hot chocolate souffle, each location offers daily specials prepared by the local chef, all of whom are trained personally by Roy.

I have eaten at every talked about place in this city and not one has matched the service staff at Roy's. It may be a bit confusing with as many as 5 different people coming to the table but it made everything go wonderfully. Our server Terry knew more about the food and swore by the Shutome dish and absolutely nailed it. The BLT Sliders that were created by the Sous Chef (who came to the table to talk to us about the food) were an amazingly pleasant surprise. The souflee was to die for. All in all, the friendliness of the entire staff is unrivaled from the host to the managers (Jeremy especially). Me and my wife splurged and spent $150 after tip for the two of us and will do it again next week. My only regret is that we waited so long to try it out.
Pros: Service, level of mastery, and intimacy
Cons: No valet although they informed it was temporary

I took my boyfriend to Roy's on 06/16/2008. We were seated right away. We decided on the lobster pot-stickers as an appetizer and for dinner he got the short ribs over broccoli and I chose the Mahi-Mahi with red skinned potatoes. The food was to die for and the service was excellent. The interior is beautiful and includes an upstairs dining area and a bar. The food was a bit pricy but I'll have to splurge again sometime soon! You won't be disappointed.
Pros: The Ambience, service, and food
Cons: a bit pricy but can be overlooked
