What People Are Saying About Sweat Gym

Citysearch
The Scene – The "sweat and be seen" trend that took off with New York City's Crunch gyms is in full effect here, where Sweat clubs (there are now three in the city) offer members the chance to work out within full view of the sidewalk passers-by. Live DJs spin nightly at the downtown location to keep the pace--and volume--higher than you'll find at some other local gyms. – – The Goods – With dozens of treadmills, eliptical trainers and other cardio favorites, along with a sizable weight training area, Sweat does big business with folks looking for traditional fitness…
scam

They have you sign up for a "free month" and then do their best to not let you out of it. Do NOT give them your cc# to sign up for a free month. They will charge you a TON for your "free month". Everyone is super nice up front, and then real jerks when it comes to you quitting.
- Pros: less crowded
- Cons: SCAM
Deplorable Cancellation policy

Don't plan on joining this gym unless you can get the ridiculous membership fee waved and then remember to cancel your membership within 60 days of the last time you plan on using the gym. I am out $100 with this outrageous cancellation policy.
- Cons: Deplorable Cancellation policy
Simply the best gym ever
by Daniella1848
I've been a sweat member for 6 years. I go to the 24th street, center city and queen village locations and workout 5-6 times per week. I don't understand where the few negative reviews on City Search are coming from - they're totally ridiculous. I'm a petite, unassuming looking woman and I feel very comfortable working out at Sweat. It isn't a pick-up scene like Ballys -it's actually not a *scene* at all. People are really there to exercise. Folks using the gym are curteous and friendly. It's never so crowded that you can't get on a machine or can't get into a class. The front desk staff always greet me with a friendly hello. They usually play good music (which I don't think is too loud - it's a gym - it's not like you can hear the music over your ipod). The equipment is in good condition, they keep it VERY clean, the cardio equipment is all hooked up with individual tv monitors, etc. Pete is an incredible kick-boxing instructor and Megan is one of the best yoga teachers I've ever had. I love Sweat.
To the guy who was upset about being kicked out for grunting - good riddance. Sweat has very publicly stated "no grunting" and no dropping dumbells rules. And for good reason. It sounds so disgusting and is offensive when some muscle jock is grunting at the top of his lungs and then slams the weights onto the ground. It's really disruptive to other people's workouts and just plain rude.
- Pros: Best trainers and instructors anywhere; great locations; amazing classes
- Cons: The only con I can think of is that the women's locker room is cramped
