Editorial Review for Carmine's Creole Cafe – by Michael Alarcon

In Short
Scores of rave reviews draw diners from far and wide to this former deli in a working middle-class neighborhood. Cajun-touched standard American fare like a scallop appetizer in a black currant and balsamic emulsion goes down easily, as do non-gresy crawfish spring rolls. Though uninventive, the mashed sweet potatoes matched with chicken dishes and the rib-eye are great. Save room for the bread pudding with a custard sauce that is plate-lickin' good.

This restaurant is packed and if you don't have a reservation, you will be waiting for a long time. Since there's no good place to wait, you will also be in everyone's way until they do find a table for you. The food is rather good though, so you may feel that it is worth it. The decor is great but the restaurant can be quite loud.

Pros: Food, Ambience

Cons: Long waits, Noise

We ate at Carmine's on a Sunday which is BYOB. eal.We were greated and seated promptly. The waitress was helpful and all questions were ansqwered without hesitation. The Duck Jambalaya Croquettes were to die for. Greaseless in a spicy sauce the beggest to be sopped up with bread. Main courses of the ribeye steak and blackened red snapper were perfect. Portions were large and there was enough ribeye to serve as a second meal. If you go on a BYOB night, bring a big wine. The food deserves and demands it.

Pros: Quality and Quantity of food, Service
