Top-notch. The service was terrific - the food was very good - the price was more than reasonable - I would go back here in a heartbeat and I would recommend it to anyone staying in downtown Philly. Terrific value. Two of us had dinner - great salads + good/very good veal - glass of wine - all for around $60.
Nasty Manager, poor service, never got food... I would give this place a ZERO star if I could. We arrived at 5:45pm with a 2 and 3 year old. We ordered the food quickly, the food came out for the kids wrong so they went back and re-made their meal. 40 minutes after kids food came out and we asked 3 times where OUR food was the Manager came out of the kitchen and said "What do you want from me". I replied "MY FOOD". Can anyone tell me where my food was?? He went in back to check and said it would be out in less than 5 minutes, after 10 minutes I said we are out of here, I will take our food to go. To make a long story short, we finally got our food (10 minutes later) to go but only after the manager continued his nastiness. I would NEVER go back there again.
Wish I could rate zero stars for the waste of money. What a mistake. For the quality and quantity of food this would have been overpriced at half of what I paid. $25 for a chewy tough veal marsala that tasted like it was microwaved and thrown into some gravy. Our party (4) shared what they called an Italian tossed salad. Again over priced and featured mostly lettuce. I feel like such a fool for paying these jokers that much money. I don't know why anyone would go back a second time. I won't.
Classic Italian. Classic Italian setting approaches tacky. Food overpriced for a chain restaurant, but good. I had the Fettuccine Alfredo, Broccoli. The pasta was made fresh on location and the sauce was almost as good as mom’s. The service was prompt and the waitress cute. More of a place to take mom and pop than a date.

Family-style portions and red-checkered tablecloths create a casual, congenial vibe, drawing families and large groups to this feast of Italian-American nostalgia set to a Sinatra soundtrack. The made-from-scratch menu is brimming with traditional dishes, from starters like fried calamari, Parmesan garlic bread and Tuscan-style mussels to spaghetti with meatballs and manicotti with chicken and spinach. For those with room to spare, a piece of sweet tiramisu and a strong cappuccino help finish the meal.
Fun place to dine for groups. I've been to this location twice and both times were for birthday dinners. The first time, we ordered the fixed priced family dinner and it was fantastic! We all got to take home some leftovers and I think we all had a very good time and ate tons of food. The second time, we just ordered several dishes and shared, which was great since we got to try a little bit of everything. I've never had a problem with the service but they seem to always be pretty busy. I love the fried cheese appetizer and the salmon with spinach is also delicious!
Oh My Goodness! It was so nice we had to go back.... We were invited to a birthday party for a friends daughter. Everything was so wonderful - the atmosphere, the food, the service, the ambiance, the history, the pictures on the walls, etc. - that we took our own children back the very next weekend. They loved it!! The portions of food are out of this world! We thought we had our favorite italian restaurant before, but now we have a new one. We highly recommend Maggiano's for all ages and all occasions.
Why Bother?. With all the incredible authentic Italian restaurants in Philly, why would anyone waste their time eating in a chain joint like this? The food was lousy, the drinks were watered down, the service was pathetic and the place is expensive. Basically this place is an Olive Garden on steroids, price included. One out of five stars is being generous for this clip joint.

My daughter and I (21 and 46) were in Philly for one night and staying in the nearby Marriott. We asked the desk for a dining suggestion within walking distance where we could go casually dressed and without hesitation the response was Maggiono's. We arrived around 6PM on a weeknight and were promptly seated. Our food was wonderful! Our server suggested that we order the half portions of our selections, and upon seeing the volume of food, we were glad she did! Everything was nicely presented and hot - nothing worse than cold pasta. We were a little surprised that there was no side salad included with the meal; although we received more food than we could eat, I do like to have a small salad accompany my meal. We were served bread, also nice and warm, but I did not care for the dipping oil - it seemed almost like straight vegetable oil; not at all what I would have expected but the rest of the meal was so wonderful that it was easy to overlook this.
Our server made our experience even more pleasant. She asked if were were celebrating an occasion, which we were not but we did mention that we were from out of town and asked if she had any tips on local shopping. She provided some good references for us, as well as some helpful travel tips.
We had no idea that Maggiano's is a 'chain restaurant' until we got our receipt. We thought we had stumbled upon a neighborhood gem - and I guess we did!

Recommend you go. Not for the romance, but the Family Feeling. Loud. Brightly lighted. I had never been here before. We were a party of two; seated immediately on an Oct Saturday nite at 6pm. The place was already filling up. We both ordered off the October Specials Menu - Butternut Raviolio was great. Bracsiole (sp?) was exactly as I remembered as a kid. Coffee was a bit 'over cooked' - been on hte hot plate too long. We ordered a fried shrimp dish, I think from the main menu - which was a bit disappointing - I cannot recall the dishs' name. Our waiter, Emilio, basically left us alone - almost to the point of me having a feeling of 'self service restaurant' - "read the specials menu yourself". I noticed other waiters were more attentive to their tables - explaining and answering patrons' questions. The bus boys were great - refilling water glasses, and clearing the table.
Funny - when the check came I gave Emilio a credit card. He came back with the credit card receipt and explained to sign one copy and keep another for myself, wished us a nice weekend and reminded me to take my credit card. I'm no young pup, it wasn't my first time using a credit card. It was the way he explained 'how to' - with effort and so deliberately - I realized at that moment he was either a very new waiter; new to our country (??); whatever ... a 'lite went off' possibly explaining why Emilio never made a positive presence of himself. I'm sure his presence will improve with experience. I gave the traditional Full Service tip.
