BEST FOOD CART IN THE UNIVERSE.
Honestly ... If it were legal, I would order the vegetarian meatballs and throw them all over my body every day of the week. BUT, 1) i'd waste a lot of food, and 2) How could I walk into Rudy Sil's Russian PO class reeking of veggie meatballs? I will say this, me and my buddy Dave Kazlow used to eat this garbage ALL the time. Love it, love it.

Fly by this University City lunch truck for the tastiest vegetarian fare around..
In Short
Penn undergrads, Ph.D. candidates, employees of West Philly businesses and other folks craving vegetarian variations on street vendor favorites all make their way to Magic Carpet's food carts, located on the University of Pennsylvania's campus since 1984. Cheap eats include pita sandwiches such as the Magic Meatball (a top-secret recipe of tofu meatballs, red sauce, cheese and salad) and the Sloppy Jason (a twist on a Sloppy Joe made from veggie chili, tofu and cheese).

Consistent, tasty, and CHEAP!.
I've eaten at Magic Carpet for several years now. By now I've tried most things on the menu, and there is not ONE THING that I dislike. I have a few favorites from the menu -- the veggie chili is a standout -- but I also often get the daily special, which is often a pasta/veggie casserole thingy, Greek or Middle Eastern combos or Indian curries. All meals include an entire whole wheat pita. The staff are very friendly, very fast, and very accommodating of special requests. They have interesting drinks, and usually homemade cookies or brownies. The line is usually VERY long during peak hours, which is the only drawback -- but it just attests to the food's popularity, especially among non-vegetarians (i.e., most of the clientele). Gourmet dining it's not; but it's consistently delicious and interesting, with good service, and you absolutely can't beat it for good value.
