In Short – This spot taps into the sizable Old City lunch crowd by focusing on Philly's most famous sandwich. A luncheonette designed mostly for takeout, this narrow space is decorated with vintage pictures of historic Philadelphia. Beef and chicken steaks come with American, provolone or Whiz. Sonny's limited menu means the staff can focus their energies on getting the best possible ingredients for their sandwiches. On the side, get a cup of fries or gooey mozzarella sticks.
Really good and avoid the place down the street campos
by afrosenstein
Really good and the guy behind the counter was so nice. The concierge at my hotel recommended them. It was a quick walk down market street. There is another place a half block away and I got identical steaks from each place to compare with my husband. This place was much better. And the people at Campos were downright rude.
- Pros: steaks staff
plenty of whiz

Sonny's seem to put more cheese wiz in their steak, which makes it really good. Olde City is a nice place to visit at nite too. The staff was extremely friendly; it is a nice place to sit and eat. I really like the old posters they hung up instead of the usually celebrities. Overall...good food.
Good Location, Not Much Else
by wwiisshh
It was my first Philly Cheesesteak experience. I was not impressed. The cheesesteak was good, but not as good as the price. The sparse environment reminded me of a franchise restaurant, and the staff acted as if I was bothering them when I placed my order. I could definitely appreciate the place after a late night at the bars, though.
- Pros: Open Late, Good Location
- Cons: , Unfriendly Staff, Poor Ambience
