The calamari salad is a go-to. It is crispy-crunchy, acidy, peppery, sweet excuse for a health salad.
there are so many better places to eat than here.
It's a neat looking restaurant but that is where the thrill wears off. The food is underwhelming, overrated and overpriced. You do better to buy a bottle of sake and get some asian takeout from Chinatown and find a romantic place to eat it than waste your hard-earned dollar at Buddakan.
We had crispy duck salad (more like chewy duck salad), duck "tacos", dried out chicken in a way-too-salty sauce, filet which was more expensive than it should be for how tough it was. The dessert "doughnuts" with dipping sauces were good but I can get them fresher at my local chinese buffet.
Our waitress was superb but other than that, pick someplace else to fill your stomach..
Beware if you have a large party. Went with 13 people for a dinner after graduation. Because we were such a large group they made us eat what they wanted to feed us, and we didn't even get menus. We were pretty much taste testers with the plates they brought to the table. And when the bill came it was over $1300. $100 per person. I will never go back, they are a rip off. Especially with the economy the way it is today. Bye-bye Budda!
Buddakan.
Tonight was a birthday celebration for my girlfriend. I had previously eaten at Buddakan for lunch, and it was good. Tonight, however was a different story.
First, the appetizer special, a duck confit spring roll, was not what I expected, as it was greasy and soft. Additionally, the lobster crepes were too thick and the lobster was overcooked, again, not what I expected at all. The duck entree, which I ordered medium rare, was presented at a well done temperature, and the salad that accompanied the duck was dressed with only rice wine vinegar. However, I can say that the spoon bread was the best that I have ever had.
The service was exceptional.
Excellent Pan asian. I used to live nearby & went here often. The food & service is always good. Although I would say it used to be even better. Still, it is probably my favorite pan asian in the city. Not to chef: put the duck fried rice back on the menu! Thanks
SOOOO GooooD. The food was great and service was awesome. They offered to put up the gift basket we made for a friend as we were there celebrating her pregnacy. I especially loved the lamb chops.
Delectable Symphony. The food here is even more scrumptious than the relaxed atmosphere! I promise, you could order every course of your meal blind-folded and you'll enjoy each dish set before you (of course using judgement where allergies are concerned). One plug I must push is their Green Tea Cheesecake that is OUT OF THIS WORLD! Each seperate sauce plays an important part in the experience. Indiviually, yummy but collectively it provides a delectable symphony that your tastbuds will thank you for bite after bite.
Great!. I have been to Buddakan 2 times so far and I plan on going back! The style/decor is awesome! The food is super fresh and the service is great. They are very personable and will help you make a decision if you don't know what to order... It's great to go for a romantic evening or with a group! The food is for sharing which is great. The desserts are awesome too! Cocktail of choice - Sangria! Steven Starr restaurants are always awesome - can never go wrong!
Consistently one of the best in philly.
I have been dining at Buddakan a couple times a year since the late 90's. I have always been a great fan of the upscale yet casual (family style) mode of dining. Even after 10 years, the space is trendy and in touch without being overbearing on the trend factor. We had sat night reservations at 7 and were promptly seated upon arrival.
My girlfriend and I started off with the ceviche trio that was on special. The fish was properly sliced and the flavour and texture was spot on. Loved the fluke with halapeno and tangerine. The texture of the fluke coupled with the sweetness of the tangerine and appropriately counteracted the heat of the halapeno. For entrees we had the shrimp pad thai which was tasty yet light on heat (not what you would get at a thai restaurant) and the dry aged beef. Th portions are huge so we opted for the small portion of beef (still 8-9oz.) The Beef was accompanied with frites and caramelized onion soy sauce. I have always been a fan of this dish and it is very good for sharing as the steak is perfectly sliced (not to mention perfectly cooked.) For dessert we had the chocolate bento box. It is simply justified gluttony at this point but oh so good. Service was attentive, prompt and not overbearing.
Buddakan has been a good faithful choice for a non formal night out for ages and will contnue to.....
good food, fun scene. I have been there several times and I always love the food. Great place for big parties or to go after work. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a fun place that also has good food.
fantastic food !. I decided to take my fiance to Buddakan for a last minute Valentine's dinner . It ended up being a great decision. We had no reservations but the hostess [ Janine ?] welcomed us and assured that it would definetly be worth the wait and then directed us to the bar . The drinks were a bit expensive but the bartender couldn't have been nicer , considering it was busy . We were seated sooner then expected and we were lead to a quaint table near the bar . We devoured a calamari filled salad which our server recomended we try . It was large enough for us to share , with some to spare . It was very flavorful and fresh tasting! The salmon was incredible which was accompanied by several rolls of delicious cream cheese sushi . The desserts sounded quite original . We decided on the donuts , which came out warm and delicious , with a trio of dipping sauces to try. The price for a wonderful night out was well worth it ! We left happy and full ! I would definetly go to this restaurant again . A great place for a romantic dinner .
