I was removed from the bar after questioning the bouncer about a warning I received from dancing. Upon questioing the bouncer at the front door he apologized to me and said he did not understand but there was nothing he could do. I did not appreciate the refusal to elaborate on the warning or the the original bouncer grabbing my arm while I asked him what not to do so i would not receive a warnting. I was trying to leave the bar and If i had been kicked out for a reason I can understand that, but the fact another bouncer apologized to me admits that this was shady. Do not go to Recess!!
disappointed. This was absolutely the WORST club experience I've had yet. To start it was $20 just to get in, Bouncers were just rude.. Lady's make sure you wear the shortest skirt you own and the tightest most low-cut shirt, if you decide to go to this dump. What kind of (Bouncer) man throws a defenseless girl on the ground and then stands there yelling " i'll F you up like a dude." Thanks Recess for my bruised knee and the embarrassment.
Living Room Lounge.
The Scene
Dark red colors, windy curvy walls and an attractive wait staff make Proto the perfect place to get out and show off that new outfit or 'do. The crowds are thin early on, making the club quiet for cocktails and chat. Around 10pm, the club quickly fills and loses it intimacy. DJs appease the crowd with standard house fare mixed with disco favorites of yesteryear. The dance floor gets packed with lookers dancing, drinking and schmoozing, despite the din.
The Draw
The lounge features a fondue spread, a full list of ritzy cocktails and champagne. Don't feel like standing at the bar and waiting for service like everyone else? Seat yourself at a circular booth and serve yourself. The mini-bars are complete with glasses and mixers--all yours for a $30 opening fee, plus the price of a bottle of your favorite spirit.
Sin Saturdays. Proto is definately one of the better bars in Old City. The music is phoenominal on Saturday nights - house, progressive house, some vocals. Service is great and the staff is pretty friendly. At the bar you can have a conversation with someone without screaming, but still hear and feel the music. It is closed until September for renovations, but the grand opening will be something not to be missed! Proto is my favorite place to lounge on Saturdays befor hitting up after hours clubs.
Great DJ.
The DJ last Saturday (7/6/02) was awesome!!!Proto Lounge is a decent place, but needs some remodeling, which, according to the manager, will be taken care of this summer.
The place was not crowded, prices are ok, people are average. It's not a hip, see and be seen place, but it's great to have a good time - especially if you like Trance and love to dance!
