In Short – Any visit to Philadelphia's historic district points to the enormous significance of Benjamin Franklin--printer, publisher, author, politician, postmaster and of course, inventor. At Franklin Court, where his house once stood, seven museums and displays explain Franklin's legacy. The centerpiece is a 54-foot-high steel skeleton, or "ghost sculpture," designed by architect Robert Venturi. It covers the footprint of the house, which was demolished in 1812. Portions of the original foundation, privy pits and wells are visible through portholes.
