In Short
Chef Georges Perrier's suburban digs are posh, from the French tiles in the bar to the "P" monogrammed onto the chair backs. Still, there's a prefab feeling. Maybe it's the shopping center setting--something seems to whisper, "Joe Millionaire was here." Menu options range from a three-course lunch to an extravagant shrimp cocktail. But price doesn't dictate taste, so head for entrees like luscious duck over polenta, or earthy black bass swathed in fresh basil.

My husband & I went to George's for our anniversary. After reading the reviews of others on this site I was worried, but my fears were unfounded. Perhaps the staff is now better trained - but we had a lovely young (well, late 20's/early 30's) waiter who was very professional and knowledgable about the menu and wine. We started with the tuna cappchio (sp?) - which was wonderful and fresh. I had the salmon and my husband had the rib steak - both cooked to perfection. I worried that the salmon would be heavy b/c it is listed as being "poached" in olive oil - but just a wondful flavor and not greasy as I feared. We both enjoyed a side pear salad that was dressed with a tasty vinegrette (my favorite part of the meal). Not big portions but not skimpy either. All of the sides are ala carte, so our bill, with wine, ran about $125 - but we had a delightful experience and plan to return soon.

I went to George's this evening with some business colleagues for dinner. The bar area is very nice and my drink was prepared adequately. There were butlered appetizers while we waited for our table. I ordered the Tomato and Mozzarella salad which was more lettuce than Tomato. I have ordered many Tomato and Mozzarella salads and this was by far the worst I have ever had. I was expecting (so was my colleague) large slices of beefsteak tomato with slices of mozzarella. This salad was mostly green with chunks of ?marinated? tomato with crumbled mozzarella on top. I really did not enjoy it. It also came with a piece of crouton which was tasteless. I ordered the scallops with grilled veggies. The scallops were acceptable however the grilled vegetables did not have a good flavor. My dessert (the chocolate cake) was good but nothing special. I was really disappointed at this award winning chef?s restaurant.

I took my wife for lunch to Georges'. I had read a very positive review in a magazine and I expected this to be a very memorable experience. The surroundings and dining room are very pleasant and that added to our expectations. We started by sharing a caesar salad which was good. The dressing was slightly different and the crostini was a pleasant change from the standard croutons. For the entree, I ordered a hanger steak medium-well. The steak that they served me was well-done to charred and the portion was extremely small for the $19 price. My wife and I both thought that the french fries ("pommes frites") were overseasoned and had us reaching for water. The sauce on the steak was a good reduction. My wife ordered the penne with chicken. The chicken was extremely soft but unfortunately so were the penne. My wife's comment was that they were softer than the penne we make for our 20-month old daughter. The penne was either precooked which would be a crime for such a restaurant or it was made to order and overcooked by the chef. At any rate, my wife who is pregnant and has a healthy appetite only ate half of the penne in her plate. This might explain the low rating that we gave. We ordered the $11 chocolate signature cake and we both agreed that it was very tasty. We paid $81 for lunch without any wine and we shared an appetizer and a dessert. We don't mind paying for good food but we can't help but think that this restaurant is nothing but a rip-off.
