Amazing Experience. Having just relocated from New York to Philadelphia, I was a tad apprehensive about the social graces that the City of Brotherly Love would hold for my fiance and myself. I was shocked to find that Philly is certainly first class. We decided to dine at Sotto Varalli for dinner prior to the annual fundraiser that my company sponsers. Our experience was most definitely top notch. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we were treated as if we had been coming there for years. Our server was amazing; I wish I could remember his name, but I think I had one too many martinis!!! If you come to Philly...go to to Sotto Varalli...amazing; definitely top notch!
local favorite. This restaurant is a local favorite. Located in the heart of the theater district and the world of restaurant chains, this independently owned restaurant offers charming and prompt service. Sotto Varalli offers an excellent meal for a great value.
Wonderful and Unique. A group of us (eight) just dined at Sotto tonight and had a fabulous time. We ended up at Sotto after much internet research on other restaurants in the CenterCity area. I was pleasantly surprised by the space-intimate, but lively enough to encourage conversation and a feeling of festivity. Service was outstanding. The food was wonderful. The bruschetta was perfect, we all shared, a delicious mixed combination. The true highlight for me was the roasted duck with a yummy sauce. It was absolutely stunning. The dessert was a fantastic bread pudding with chocolate and berries. Delicious and in a great location. To cap it off, there is live music, bass and piano with vocals. We truly had the best time. See you again.
PERFECT. I took my husband here last nite for a dinner date based on Sotto's high ratings on citysearch and we both absolutely loved it! We got a nice window seat, a friendly waitress, and the food was magnificent. I had lobster ravioli which was delicious and he had the hawaiian butterfish and we both ate to the limit. The steamed shrimp dumpling appetizer was very tasty as well and the tiramisu was SPECTACULAR. And believe me, I had my fair share of tiramisu all over the place. I highly recommend Sotto for a romantic date if you want to impress that special someone. Loved the live jazz. It worked for us! See you again soon
Terrible customer service!. My fiance surprised me by taking me into the city for a romantic dinner. We decided to order a nice bottle of white wine, which we pointed out to the waitress on the menu since we could not pronounce it. This bottle was $35. She came back with a bottle of red with the exact same name and even told us how to pronounce it. Because we thought we made a mistake and ordered red (since it was THE SAME NAME) we just drank it and didn't say anything only to find out it was $95 when our bill came! The manager and general manager refused to take it off our bill saying a wine presented is a wine sold and there was nothing they could do. While Sotto Varalli has decent food, atmosphere and even service their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
Excellent dinner/date spot in Center City. Had excellent dinner here. Waiter was very attentive but not overbearing, also quite knowledgeable on the wine list. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time and App's were brought out quite promptly. Not too crowded so it made for a quiet date spot. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and plan to go back. We sat in the windows, which was nice, but the booths in the back look very appealing and private....I would recommend requesting them. It didn't seem like reservations were necessary but I am an advocate of making reservations even if 10 minutes before dinner. Both of our seafood dishes were excellent!!
Make sure you get the best seats.
First, make sure you go on friday or saturday night to hear the live jazz. Second, to actually see the guys playing the jazz, you have to sit in the main dining room. There's another dining room that's sectioned off...this isn't nearly as romantic and isn't nearly as intimate. If you want romance and a good view, ask for seats in the main dining room.
The food is exquisite if you go on a non-busy night. Not so if its busy.
"Just the ABSOLUTE BEST". I took my family Fri. night for a celebratory dinner and we were treated to one of the best dining experiences ever. This restaurant is just lovely, the mosiac display, octopus and window seating were wonderful. The staff was very accomadating, maite d' and waiter. We all had different dinners from tuna to cioppini and loved all. including the appetizers. I personally enjoyed the brushetta. And on top of a delightful dinner we were treated to wonderful live jazz. the gentleman who sang and played bass was superb. Thank you SOTTO.
IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES.
A PERFECT EVENING....SMOOTH JAZZ.....MARVELOUS FOOD.....TRUE MERRIMENT....FANTASTIC SERVICE.....AND THE VIEW.
BROUGHT MY 6 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER AND SHE WAS TRULY ENTERTAINED...WE WERE NOT HURRIED, AS I HAVE FOUND WITH SOME PHILLY RESTAURANTS.
just ok. The staff were friendly but the food was just ok.Brushetta was bland as was the calamari. The salad was fresh but the dressing was bland. The entrees were lukewarm, even the dessert was a disappointment.Had a great view of the Avenue of the arts. There are too msny other places in town to go to.
